Hi everyone, this is my first post on here so be gentle please

my wife and I hosted a halloween party at home last year. we decorated the house very OTT, something that isn't really done in the UK.
We had around 50 adults who all (but 2) put a lot of effort into their costumes etc. everyone had a great time and went home happy.

This year a colleague and I want to throw another party, but bigger and better. We're planning on hiring an outside venue to hold around 100 people and charging them around £5 just to cover the costs.

a few ideas I have is to have a few side attractions going on thoughout the night. I have a Tarrot card reader who has agreed to come and do quick readings, gonna have her in a secluded area screened off with dripping black cheesecloth/fabric, hopefully she'll be like a witch or something.

I also have this idea of having a selection of pre recorded video messages that I'll have throughout the night, from a virtual reality host, something like the 'Gatekeeper' from the atmosfear games. His role will be to welcome everyone and set the mood for the night, then at a later time he'll pop back up with a task for the guests to fulfill. and this is where Im stuck!!!

What challenge can he give the guests?

My innitial thought was that he would announce the entire place was in lock down (with a sound effect of a door slamming with multi-echo) and that somewhere in the room was the key that would unlock the venue, allowing the guests a safe exit at the end of the evening. I thought to have around 13 keys hidden around the venue....but only 1 of them would unlock the lock....

heres my problem. Is this idea rubbish? how could I have the multi keys idea relate to opening something?

on top of all that, what other party games could i do that would work within the evening, which is gonna be similar to a small nightclub enviroment.

Halloween is a hugely understated festival in the UK and I'm keen to get onboard and help promote it...it's such a fun time of year.

Any and all suggestions are welcome folks..

hope to hear from someone soon.

I kind of like the Keys idea...but maybe give them clues/riddles that help them find the keys. Or maybe you could do a altered version of the tempt your fate game. You could have multiple keys, but each key looks different. If you have 100 people, I would have maybe closer to 20 or 30 keys. Then say how the doors are booby trapped and the wrong keys lead to a "deadly ending" (or bad fate - there are some great examples of bad fates throughout this forum. My favorite is one where the victim has to lead the party in the Thriller dance, and can't stop until at least 10 people join in) The person with the right key wins a great prize. Maybe a 50 euro gift card?? 100? Whatever is appropriate for your group. You might even do clues for indicating which key is the right one... but I'd make it hard to tell, since you don't want them getting the right one too soon. Most of the fun will be watching the wrong ones be used. You might need a host to be a little theatrical announcing the attempt of using the key...and then the untimely demise of the victim. If you do this, make sure you warn people not to try the key unless they are willing to accept the consequence.

If you did a Haunted Carnival theme for the party, that would work with the fortune teller. And the Virtual Host could be like the Ring Leader (circus - carnival). Then you could have small game type things set up all around the edges of the party. There are tons of ideas for a Haunted Carnival themed party, just use the search function. You would also be able to do the original Tempt Your Fate game. That's always a crowd pleaser, especially when you have public "bad" fates. If you do the wrong key "deadly fate" then I probably wouldn't do the tempt your fate... unless you can make them different enough.

Another game idea that I liked that I saw on here was a Murder Mystery type of game, altered for a party atmosphere. They placed picture frames of suspects around the party, as well as clues and red herrings around the party. Guests would have to find both clues and suspects to try and figure out who the murderer was.

You could also pass out black spider rings to females and orange spider rings to males as they enter, one per person. Then guys will give their rings to females they think had the best costume, and vice versa. The people with the most rings, win Best Male and Best Female costume contest. It helps keep people active and interacting.

Well, I think I might be fresh out of ideas. If any more come to mind I'll be sure to share.

If you do the key idea that JahRah proposed - go to ebay and search for "Assorted Keys". Last year we were thinking about something similar, and found all sorts of bags of cool antique keys that were reasonably priced.

The game sounds interesting, and I am curious to see how it turns out.

after listening to you guys suggestions...here's my plan

the game will be called "DEAD MANS CHEST".

-around the room will be hidden 13 keys.
-the virtual host will po up and announce the game, untill that point people won't know keys are hidden at all.
-only 2 keys will be of any use, the other 11 will be duds
    - the 13 people who find the keys will be brought up on stage where a wooden chest will be bound in 2 sets of chains, each locked with a big chunky padlock.
    - each player will attempt to try their keys, with only 2 winners managing to unlock the chest.
    - the 11 losers will be sent back to the audience:
-inside the chest will be full of goo, soggy spagetti etc, but also some fake Heart, Lungs, Liver, Eyeballs etc etc etc...hence the dead man is in the chest..in bits!!!
    - to 2 contestants will have say 60 seconds on the clock to race against each other and get their hands (and arms, probably face) dirty and try to find the 'golden token' or something...which might even be inside the rubber latex heart, which them may even have to use their teeth to rip open if they figure it out
the contestant who finds it first will win a prize...dunno what but it'll have to be worth the effprt lol..

I like it !! Sounds great! May have to "borrow" the idea for one of my future parties.
