I am clueless as to a theme for next years party. I have a good graveyard, and assorted props, typical Halloween stuff, some store bought, others homemade. I really want to do an area 51, alien lab kind of room, but I'm not sure how o tie it all together, any ideas?

What if you did an all over mad scientist kind of theme. That would lead right into the area 51 alien room. You may need to get a few more things...but as I always say...there's never quite enough is there?

Maybe you could construct some huge space craft hovering over your graveyard and lights shining down on top of it. You could have some alien creatures wandering through it and that would help kindof pull it together. You could always use empty 2 liter bottles for their heads, put some weird lights inside them or something. I think through cardboard, duct tape & paint anything is possible. LOL!

My wife and I have been in that same boat for a while. Building up the graveyard, then adding what I would call "General Halloween" props for around the house. What we decided to do was pick a couple of rooms, and theme them, but whenever we do, we think about how we could reuse those props in different situations. For example. I bought a standard door, cut out a 8" x 10" hole near eye level. Painted the door a metallic silver and used acrylics to add rust and grime. Then I bought a big industrial handle and put that on there. I have a spot in our kitchen where there is a little nook with a counter, so I put a hook in the ceiling there, and I can hang a decoration in there. The neat thing about this, is that in the case of our zombie theme, I will put some kind of "Zombie Storage" sticker on it, and put a zombie head in there. If I was going to do an alien theme, I would put some alien head in there. Etc... Each of our big props are very flexible with a little "skinning" done to them. We have chosen themes for the next couple of years now (Zombie this year, Haunted Carnival next year, and Insane Asylum the year after) which helps plan props. Up until now, it has always been "General Halloween" with a haunted house kind of feel.
Hope that helps.
Happy Haunting!

reusing props –

I dont know if we will really have a theme. Either. It is different in eachroom. I think we are back to movies again.
The main floor, the great room will be vampires. Nothing like having coffins in the living room.
I always want to reuse props if I can. I have used most already. So this year I am dressing some in clown costumes so I can reuse them. My chain saw guy and micheal, and probably a face changer will have costumes and masks. It will be a carnevil, on one level. My grandaughter would not go down the basement last year and it was mostly spiders. I know its gonna be creepier this year.
Last year we did movies for a theme, and had a prize for most movies found in the whole house. Some rooms were obvious and some we just had one or two props. The the legs under the house for the wicked witch in Wizard of Oz. The hat and the owl from the Harry Potter. Then we had the exorcist and the birds, ect. for more decorated rooms.
I am still looking for some good ideas for a couple rooms. I will usually find it on here. or some new prop will come out.
It usually all falls in place eventually.

then you can get, gravevards, zombies and a alien laboratory all in one theme

my moms mad lab stuff is tied into the wetbar where we make our adult beverages
She has the Gemmy mad scientist guy who's name is surprisingly eluding me atm as the bartender. Her overhead lights are blacklight and she had stuff that would glow positioned around her drinks. Really easy and cheap to do, looked great.

I think Gnome's idea can work pretty well. Then you can have an "Alien Autopsy" table. The party can be called "the Invasion" or "Survive the Invasion" or maybe even "Monsters vs Aliens"....yeah, I know it was a cartoon...but you could definitely horrify it.
I think the key to being able to tie in a lot of different things might be the invitation. So, if you go with Gnome's idea...maybe you can create a newspaper/newsletter with articles about Alien Landing, Alien technology for reanimating dead, etc. So, they get it's a zombie alien thing going on._________
