This year, we'll be hosting a Halloween party to lots of grade school kids, and I'm looking to build Halloween versions of established kids games. I'm starting early with the thinking cap and could use your input.

Here's some thoughts so far —

    1) Witch Brew Uno: For those unfamiliar, Uno is a card game where you try to discard your entire hand of cards. You discard by matching colors or numbers from the cards you hold. If you have no match, you must take a card from the draw pile.

Our idea is to make our version of Uno using a cauldron and witch's ingredients. The kids will have skulls, eyeballs, pumpkins, etc., that will be painted different colors. On your turn, you can drop a item or color that matches the last item added. If you have no match, you'll have to "draw" an item from the smokey cauldron and wait your turn to try again. We're still thinking about the "wild card" ingredient.

This is a variation of the Uno Moo game you can see here: Uno Moo.

    2) Frankenstein Operation: Everyone knows the game Operation, and most everyone in this forum has seen the Operating Table illusion where an actor pokes his head from beneath a table that appears to connect to a body undergoing an operation. Our thought is to connect the two.

The plan is to have the "doctor" being assisting by the kids with the operation. A friend made up as the monster will poke his head through the table to connect to a fake body with open cavities. The kids will assist putting in things like the wish bone, the bread basket, and other stuff from the classic game.

Since this wont really be electronic, perhaps we'll have a remote in the doctor's hand that activates a strobe on the monster's face and some loud electronic noise. That will be the actor's cue to spring awake for a second and act as if something went wrong. This will also give us more control to help with the little kids who probably wont be as skillful.

Well, that's what I've got so far. Anybody else have an idea on a Halloween twist on an old classic?

Another twist to the operation game would be to use squirting blood. If they hit the wrong thing, blood comes squirting out!
I actually saw a life size operation game with squirting blood on a television show here in holland. It was too funny.

What about a version of 'apple-bobbing'?

Instead of water, use weak red jelly (that is jello in US, I think, not jam as in UK). I'm not sure, if the apples would still bob, would have thought so as the jelly would be more buoyant than water. Same game, just more yukky!!!

What about a 'corpse' version of pinata?

Make a upper body of paper mache, and get kids to beat it. Halloween themed sweets could be the prizes.

What about 'zombies' buff'? A twist on 'blind man's buff.

The 'blind man' is a zombie, who cannot see. As he gets the others, they turn into more zombies (blindfolded) until one player is left! Play spooky music in the background. Might need some managing, and a big space!

Just thought, I have no idea what age grade kids are...but might give you or others ideas.
