I had a fantastic idea for doing a twist on a Pirate theme, and I'm thinking about running with it... Pirates in cages, a broken pirate ship on the roof, East India Trading Company flags everywhere.... and me, the undead Commander of the EITC yelling at my men to round up all Pirates to be hanged! It could work. I do love Pirates, but dead pirates are just perfect for Halloween... Plus I have like 10 skeletons, and 2 caged pirates already. My "fresh" graves would be Davey Jones himself, the Dread Pirate Roberts (cuz I can!), Captain Morgan (again. cuz I can!), and possibly a real pirate like Anne Bonny....
I need a name for the theme though. The street is called Eastview, so trying to name my haunt in general kinda sucks.... So far we've changed the name every year... We had wonderland gone mad, and nightmare before halloween. I need something that evokes a sense of fear for the EITC
We will probably throw a party this year that is MUCH smaller than the last 2 years. I can't handle having 150 people at my parents house and then spending 3-5 days CLEANING up the mess that is left....and none of those 150 people are willing to come help... so I'm thinking of scaling it back to 30-40 people max....
I won't have to clean up the side of the house, I can bring people in the front door, and decorate the inside of the house. perhaps half cave of treasure, and half officer's study...
The backyard can be my townsquare... tattered pirate flags with the EITC logo Painted in Red over them.... Dead Pirates everywhere, we have Palm Trees already, and a Spa that I can utilize. Perhaps a Scaffold with pirates being hung....
Any other ideas? the widgets in my head have been spinning!

Your invitation to guests could be in the form of a summons or warrant for all pirates to be prosecuted by the
"Eastview Trading Company."
Here are a few pirate theme prop ideas from our party three years ago. There are more in my album.
Our scarecrow entry for the neighborhood scarecrow contest:
Animated pirate captain:
Treasure chest and unfortunate pirate:
Pirate BAr:
There are a lot of things you can do with dead or undead pirates. I also did a twist on the POTC jail cell with a dog holding the keys, but with skeletal pirates. The taller one was animated and said "Here doggy, doggy, you mangy mutt..."
Have fun with this theme. You seem to be off to a great start with your ideas!

I really like the dog with Key's... Might have to find one... I already have the Keys. =)
I'm thinking of a foamboard broken ship on the roof in the front, so possibly having a crow's nest would be cool. Wonder if I could utilize the giant palm tree in the front yard?? - and by giant, I mean it's a Queen Palm that is about 30 feet tall...How many days do I have left?

Great idea! It sounds like you already have everything all planned out! Can't wait to see your pics when it's all done, your last years was awesome
Your invite could be an invitation for all pirates to come to battle against the EITC and their attacks against pirates.
Great pics wolfbeard!Hello, I want my book. Bonjour, je veux mon livre.

Well my twist on a pirate theme may be put on hold. my sister in law, whom I was counting on for a lot of help (she said she would) got PREGNANT, and is due between October 14-31st. Seriously. WTH. She refuses to be around any chemicals (understandable), so all the glue and paint we would be using she can't be around... she's paranoid to say the least. My mommy huffed paint chips when she was pregnant with me, and look. I turned out JUST FINE!! hehehe. jk..
AND she said if I threw a baby shower and wanted to do a halloween theme (which I think is appropriate since it's gonna be a halloween baby), it HAD to be tasteful towards a traditional baby shower... which throws ALL of my decor for the Pirates out the window. She said I could use Orange (victory!) but that I COULDN"T use Black (DEFEAT!)! She also said "nothing scary"... seriously. I think I may have died a little inside when she said that. I was thinking about zombified babies in a corner staring at the guests (or maybe stationed all over the house).... but that idea was quickly nixed... bummer.
at the very least, I was thinking, everyone could dress us for the baby shower... plan it far enough in advance that people would have time to show up in costume...
I still have some of the Wonderland gone Mad Decor left, and considered a Mad Tea Party for the Baby Shower....(I have the flamingos for croquet, tea party lights we made, and a few other small things) Create momma to be a Big Gauty Chair to be at the center of the tea party.... serve tea party type of fair... and I COULD darken it up a bit to make it more Halloweenish.... I was thuroughly nixed on doing anything pirates or haunted mansion for the baby shower.... 99% of the world doesn't understand my insanity.... Next year she doesn't have an excuse, and I fully expect her 1 year old girl or boy to help mommy and auntie with the pirate theme though. =)
I dunno. What do yall think? I'm all over the place now with this darn baby shower problem, and nothing sounds really good! How many days do I have left?

Too bad I don't live in your area. I'd help. I do feel your pain. I throw a huge party, also at my parents home, that has grown monstrously huge. I put in between 2 and 3 solid days worth or set up and just as much clean up, not to mention the $$ involved. I feel a little possessed to keep throwing them bigger and bigger each year, but I only get a couple hours of help from 3 or 4 friends.
If you do throw a Pirate themed Halloween party it could be cheaper because at the end of the summer all the "pirate-y" stuff usually goes on CLEARANCE!
