Default Finally stopped obsessing about things

We had our Party on Saturday and it went really well. I of course for the past three days could only dwell on the things I forgot or didn't work.

Flying Crank Ghost..Friday night both blacklights worked, Saturday night neither worked.
Forgot to turn on candles in a couple of places,
forgot that my costume had gloves,
forgot to print up the "Jacks magic Bean Chili, No humans were harmed in the making of this, yet hearty enough for a Giant" Sign for in front of my two crocks of Chili.
Forgot to hand off my Camera to a specific person to take pix,
forgot to tell people to guess how many candies in a Anchor hocking pumpkin closest wins pumpkin,
forgot to tell people to sign guestbook,
never did the drawing for when people turned in their guesses on the 13 vinyetes about Fairy Tales

I know I forgot other things but right now I forget what they were.

I do that too!

Glad it went well, and just remember - your guests probably didn't notice any of the stuff you worried about.

No one else know what we have planned but ourselves. I am sure no one noticed & everyone had a good time. We learn from our mistakes & you wont be likely to forget these things next year.

My party is Friday and I am totally obsessing so I feel your pain. I'm sure I will forget a great many things as I have way too many "To-Do" lists laying about and have actually misplaced most of them....

I bet people still had a good time, and because you forgot so much this year, perhaps next year you'll remember!

Glad your party was a success. I obsessed over mine as well and ended up forgetting things the night of the party. It was cool though because most people are too busy admiring all of the decor & food, they don't even realize things are missing. We almost cancelled because of flu too & wasn't100% sure we were gonna get to go through with it till the morning of. Made everything chaotic but it was a huge success. Can't wait till next year's party!!

We had about 100 PPL come to our party this year.
3:00 am, I am running around the house turning off and unplugging everything, that is when i realize just how many things I forgot to plug in or turn on... CRAP.

Everyone was so impressed with the house, they had no idea that I missed anything... oh well there is always next year!

See, this is why I gave up throwing parties! I drove myself nuts and never enjoyed my own gatherings because I was so engrossed in getting everything right. Plus, I am a compulsive over-planner. I would always come up with way more things to do than was humanly possible to get done then I would beat myself up and feel like a failure even though people would tell me how great everything was!

Hope you at least managed to have a good time!

I finally feel normal. Thanks for this post because I do the exact same thing. My family and friends get so frustrated with me for being so picky about the things I forgot/didn't get to. Natascha I had a very similar list the night of my party-it also took me a few days to ramp down my displeasure with forgetting them. I could have, however, choked the next person that told me nobody would notice. Ahem folks, if I didn't put so much time and effort and detail into it in the first place you wouldn't be so impressed. So what if I raise the bar for myself every year.
You guys are right, though. Nobody knows what you had planned and you do learn for the upcoming year how to not make that particular mistake again.
I realize that what I plan would take an entire team of people a couple of weeks to put together...that's what happens when you work in an entertainment deptartment of one of the best theme parks in the world. Wouldn't it be great if we all got together and planned and executed the greatest halloween party ever? Just dreaming....

It seems that it never fails that as hard as I try to turn everything on something gets overlooked. The bad thing is i would try and think ahead and turn things on earlier in the day such as the talking butlers and other things that makes sounds but my wife gets tired of setting things off troughout th day that she unplugs them so of course not all is on during the party some thanks to that because of her. I also have about 30 homemade animated props for the yard. I use to try and fix things during the party as some may quit working due to various reason and it is hard to leave something not working that you worked so hard on earlier, but I have finally learned to let it be and spend time with friends. I do occassionaly try and sneak away to fix the simple things such as one of my leapers would sometimes hangup in the tree branches. Quick fix, move it a foot back no more problems. The only thing that seems to always occur is rain during setup. water gets into the motion sensors and causes havok so I try and keep spares for quick replacements. In the end the more you have the harder to keep up with especially on party night.
