Last night we were just about dressed, food cooking, desserts laid out, place looking great, and a thunderstorm comes through and kills the power! We COULD have finished cooking on the grill, and candles make for excellent atmosphere, but our concern was the well and pump. A housefull of drinking folk would have emptied out the pressure tank, probably necessatating a call to the plumber - plus we had no good idea when it would be restored. We waited half an hour, then began the dreaded calls - party cancelled! Power finally was restored after 10:00.
All is not lost. I was ready to throw in the towel, but my wife couldn't see all of the preparation going to waste. We called our guests today, and quite a few will be able to make it Friday the 30th. The food that could be frozen has been frozen, and my wife says it'll be like a catered affair next week - just heat it up and we're ready to go.
Wish us luck!

Funny thing about the generator... It's in the garage, behind the faux walls I put up for our haunt!!! And of course there are lots of props in front of the wall. I was trying to figure out how I was going to get it out in the dark with all of that stuff in front of it. Then I said to hell with it and opened up a pumpkin ale!

I'm happy to say the rescheduled party was a BLAST! Some people couldn't reschedule, but we were able to offset that a bit by people who couldn't make it the previous week but were now available. It was a good group of people with some great costumes, and a lot of fun. The costume contest wen't well, and people really liked the haunt. We played the winking murderer game later in the evening, and it was a riot. We offered a prize for the best "death scene", and everyone was up to the challenge. What was really funny was that when people died, they stayed down! I didn't expect that - people were dropping like flies all over the house! We gave prizes to the murderer and accuser as well.
With most of the work done, we weren't stressed out and worn out like the previous week - so it really did turn out for the best. Last guests left after 1 (late for us!) and we finally got to bed around 3:30.
Downside of being up so late- my wife had a migraine all day Saturday, so she pretty much missed Halloween.
