We had our 5th Annual party last night and I don't think anything could have gone better!
The snow we had on Friday melted in the morning and it was comfortably cool and dry... perfect for sitting around the fire.
Only one couple who RSVP'd had their pre-party plans run late and couldn't make it. The other 40 people were here ealy and stayed late. A few even called and asked if they could bring someone else.
None of the food was burned and it was all done right on time. The amount of food was nearly perfect. There aren't any leftovers for breakfast this morning and we didn't have to break out the emergency pizzas.
All the props and decorations worked all night and drew plenty of compliments and questions (and we all know how exciting it is when someone shows interest in our props!)
Nobody hit the bar too hard. There was zero drama. Everyone had a sober ride home.
We're mid-thirties, and unlike all of our friends, have no kids... or plans of having kids. Halloween is our baby. It's where we devote our time, energy, and money. We still have about 40 people we invite every year who have never been to our party and never RSVP either way, but we are very lucky to have a group of family and friends who truly seem to appreciate the time and effort we put into it each year.
I went to bed last night all excited to post this first thing in the morning...then I read Samhain Voodoo's post. I felt so bad that I almost didn't. I know that we've had years that were bad... but not that bad. It reminded me how much faith you have to have in people to throw a party. And how much the people you know and trust can really let you down.
I decided that this post would be a reminder that it doesn't always work out, but when it does there's nothing better than sharing the greatest of all holidays with your favorite people in the world.
Happiest of Halloweens to everyone... especially you Samhain Voodoo. Keep the faith!

I'm glad to hear your party turned out great! My son's party was last night and it was awesome too. I was a little cranky setting up because it was so much work and I honestly thought we weren't going to get it together on time. I think I snapped at my neighbors who were there helping me. I was like Bridezilla with the wedding. LOL
