After all the decorations, food prep & costume planning, I may have to cancel the party. My oldest son was diagnosed with the flu today. He's on all the meds & they even started my other son on it just in case. I'm scared that my husband and I will come down with it. Their doc seems convinced that my oldest will be better by Saturday, esp. if fever breaks tomorrow or Friday. We have to play it by ear. I just can't imagine taking down all the Halloween decor w/o having my big party. Does anyone think it's weird to have it mid November? Due to my husband having to work lots of Saturdays and Halloween actually being on a Saturday this year, the first available date is Nov. 14. I know I'm a Halloween freak and could celebrate anytime but you think people would be up for that?

Poor thing! Hope your son gets better fast and no one else comes down with it!

I'd check with your invitees about a Halloween party that far into November... they may not be as into it as us Halloween fanatics.

I think if you can't have the party in October then you can't have the party at all.

I'd have to agree with savagehaunter. I think most people are contemplating Thanksgiving by that point, having put Halloween behind them (and put their costumes away).

I've always been somewhat baffled by office Christmas parties held in late January as it is. Call it something else if you want, but not a Christmas party.

Of course, the health of your children is paramount, but I think a mid-November party would be a bit of a letdown. If not for you (as you note, we can have a Halloween party anytime!) but for your guests.

Witch Hazel, I'm truly sorry to read this. I really hope your son is feeling better soon & that you & hubby keep well. I'll be sending healing energy your way. Also, I'd keep with your plans just in case your are feeling well enough in time, plus keeping the decor up will help keep your spirits up which can only be good for your physical and mental well-being, and no I don't think it's weird at all to have the party in Nov "weird is relative anyways, a mainstream label", and if your friends know you well and know how much effort you've put into it, they'll probably go the extra mile to support your efforts. Stay strong & * Blessed Be*^v^

When is your party scheduled? The worst of the flu passes quickly.

Wash your hands a lot and take your vitamins!

Thanks for all the well wishes!! I checked with several guests and either I have friends who really like to party or just friends who (just as Dutchess of Darkness said) really care about my feelings and the hard work I have put into it. All the ones I spoke to said they would come in November! But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my son is better by Friday (the doc seemed to think he would be). His symptoms are very mild and he thinks we caught it quick. So far all is well. The rest of us in the family are all on Tamiflu as a preventative measure. There may be hope for our party on the 17th yet!!!
