I am having my first actual party and can't figure out how to decorate my living room which joins the dining room and kitchen (open area). I thought that the white sheets with black lights would be awesome but I'd have to buy new black lights and sheets. Now I'm heading towards a Twilight theme of vampire stuff. I have things to put on bottles that are Twilight themed and 5x7' and 8x10 pictures/sayings from the movie to print out and put into frames. But I don't know how to decorate my living room itself! I want it darker, so maybe candles..I just want it to be safe with kiddos...HELP?!. I don't have much money, which seems to be a theme this year, so it has to be moneywise and I'm not great at tool stuff. LOL Lordy!

My bathroom is Psycho themed. I made my shower curtain with blood splatter and handprints-the easiest and funnest effect and I also have a smaller cd player that will play the shower theme over and over. I'm filling the tub with the Crayola bath tabs that color the water and black and red roses on the counter. I'm also going to put something in the medicine cabinet for those who snoop.

My yard will basically be zombietown since I have quite a few props (like the dragging zombie from Spirit 2004 and the guy who raises his head Spirit 2004) and I have quite a bit of body parts and skulls and tombstones that I made years ago. So I'm less worried about that...I just need to figure out how to put it all together.

Thanks for any and all help/suggestions!!!

This is the first year I'm having to decorate the downstairs for a party too. I made some of the PVC flicker candles to use. Also I went to Dollar General and they had awesome black gauzy material bagged for $1. I loved it. Actually got a ton of it so I'm using them for drapes and to put on end tables and such. I'll also get the white sheets for the furniture. I'll try the surplus stores. I just went to the dollar tree too and picked up a bunch of stuff for the house. Plus I made potion bottles for the kitchen and I'm going to buy colored cellophane (sp?) for the ceiling fan lights. That will be a LOT cheaper than buying a ton of colored bulbs.

I made some props too and had some already made from last year that I'll spread around. Hopefully the kids will like it!

I printed off pictures to cover the pictures on my walls.. also as Dragonmine said.. I bought tons of creepy cloth its cheap and has a million uses. Im covering my furniture with black sheets and Im switching out my coffee table for a coffin. Im using mini skulls on my candle holders. Martha Stewart has some great ideas. Branches painted black laid around... mice and bat silouettes..

I can only find the small amounts of black colored fabric/cheesecloth at walmart for a couple of bucks each. My living room window area is a good 10 feet wide and I'm a cheap*ss! I'm hoping to find some black cheesecloth that I can buy around 4 yards together somewhere for that window. I have decided to go with the Twilight theme for the living/dining room for sure..just gotta figure out how to set the mood and darken my home up some. So tomorrow I will be searching for red light bulbs and other dark colors.

Also, does anybody know where I can find BLACK candles? Michaels, Walmart, Dollar Tree only had white/beige/orange/purple. LOL I should've started earlier!!!

I'm gonna cover my furniture with black sheets and may hang them over the curtains as well. I always use red bulbs in my lamps, light fixtures. I'm going with lots of candles this year as well.

Newbie and Witch.. do you think the black sheets would be more dramatic than the white?

Booter... you can find a Joann Fabrics coupon online for 40% off fabric. I've made more than my share of curtains a LOT cheaper than buying them. Walmart also has really cheap fabric. As for candles, you can make all you want uber cheap with PVC pipe. I made 30 of them this year in black and white. There's tutorials on here.

Thanks Dragon! I'm going to make the pvc candles next go around I think?!. But I am going to see if there's a Joann around where I live and I will go and buy some black fabric and make my own drapes. I think that would be the most effective for my upstairs area?!.
