Thread: Online only invitations?

I love all of the ideas and extremely creative invitations you all do. But for us, online makes more sense (had a poor RSVP turnout with wedding invitations, so I can only imagine a Halloween party!).

Does anyone else do this and have recommendations how to make the invite more effective?

I'm having a brain surgery anniversary / Halloween party. I want a picture of my MRI (now my avatar) as the graphic, but am not sure if this is too "yeah, yeah, you had a brain tumor, get over yourself". You know?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Holy Smokes, first let me say that I am happy that everything work out with the surgery .. thats a scary thing.

As far as invitations for me, as stupid as it sounds, things like Facebook and Myspace are serious time savers. Its seems like most people, at least once and a while, use these programs. Sending invites to a list is really the most convenient way to do it. Not to mention the addition of a Message/comment board on the event site allows you to correspond rather quickly with a guest who has questions.

It never hurt to pick up a phone either and give someone a call for a bit of a personal invite. I know many people love giving and receiving invitations and there is no reason not to do that. Maybe doing a combination of the three will give you the best over all idea of attendees.

Also, nothing for nothing, the sight of YOUR brain x-ray on your invitation might make people a little uncomfortable .. maybe I would just put something halloweenie on it instead.

I would go ahead and use someone such as Free Online Invitations and Party Planning with MyPunchbowl
for sending out your invites online. They have many different styles to choose from and they are free too. You can also upgade for a small price. They will even help you plan your party.

I switched from evite to My Punchbowl this year, just because you can personalize a little more on the mypunchbowl site. It's like making your own paper invites, but not really, if that makes sense. Hehe.

Personally, I like your brain xray. I don't think I'd be thinking "get over yourself", expecially if you were my friend. I felt the same way though about my illness, was afraid to talk too much about it because I thought people would not want to hear it, you know? A lot of people don't quite understand unles they have been there. I think you should use it if you want to use it. After all, what's better for halloween than a brain xray!?

I used to make fancy papercrafted invites, and this year I'm scaling back. Instead I made really cheap postcard invites from Vistaprint - 100 full color glossy front cards (+ B&W back side) fully customizable, cost me like $6. The front is a colorful image & a catchy quote, and the back is the party details.

Most of my friends use email and would respond to an e-vite, but I think that having some sort of paper invite (even if it is just a postcard) really shows that you are putting in effort and value the event. It sets the tone and gets people excited.

That said, I think the brain image is cool - before I settled on my theme I was thinking of using this image of an X-ray with a knife that is similar -

You could do something with the series and show yours as the "normal" brain? Or the "most disturbed of all" or something comic. I think they look awesome printed on transparencies like they are really X-ray film, you can make fun layered cards with that effect.

I also used to do elaborate paper invitations, making each one special, and got so many compliments. But as the guest list grew I no longer wanted to spend the time. I made a dracula video last year sent out by email, but too many people couldn't open it. So this year I'm using Online Invitations, party planning and event management from pingg for an e-vite. I like the way I can customize it somewhat and upload my own graphic. There still is a lot to be desired, but maybe the easy way it is to RSVP might encourage those who never do. And it will send out reminders, so another way to poke those who don't respond.
