Default Advice?

Hey guys,

For the past few years, I've been setting up my Haunted House at my parents house (my house). I will be moving into a Condo in the city in the up-coming month. I know it's not a good place to set up your Halloween Decor - much less do a Haunt. I know props would grow legs and walk away! I am thinking about throwing a party at my condo. It's small (I'm in college). What do you guys and gals think? Should I throw a small party (10 people I would think) or just skip out? It can't be loud, since people live around us, so I'm kind of unsure what to do at this point. I'd prefer not to miss out, since Halloween is BY FAR my favorite holiday (which is why I'm here!), but I don't want to cause a ruckus at my new condo and new neighbors!

What do you guys suggest?

I've managed to throw a successful Halloween party in my small studio flat last year, which amassed to about 13/14 people in the end, but was fine! There was enough space for everyone and we had a really good time. To make sure I didn't annoy the neighbours, the music was turned down at midnight and I tried to warn them in advance, although my situation is slightly different as I live pretty much behind a nightclub so it's always noisy lol!

That's hard to say. What are your friends like? Would they be the type to respect the noise issue? If so, I'd say go for it, if not then maybe it's best not to have the party. You could always start the night out there, then go out around midnight or so.

I throw parties, because I live in an apartment. People are mostly cool. You can notify neighbors or invite them (that solves a problem).

Here's some deco/party tips to keep the cost down.
BYOP (this can be the biggest cost if you furnish yourself)
keep the food to dips and about only 1/3 of what you make for your crowd is ever eaten. So do food that you want to have left overs from.
Cover your furniture in white sheets, throw some moth balls around the day before the party.
Use blue party bulbs (simulates moon light)
Now from here you can do just about anything (theme) you want.

I cover my walls in black plastic, make my hallway a dungeon tunnel with rock paper. Hang plastic bats (with black thread) at different lengths from the ceiling. I corpsed a cheap plastic skeleton and hung on the wall with the fake chains.

To solve the loud music problem...I choose themed music (Edgar Winters Frankenstein, Eagles Witchy Woman, etc ) and play low as background. You want your guest to interact, not dance. If you play party games you won't want loud music.

I created a reaper from and old costume...hung on a pole lamp, stuffed a Halloween screaming door mate (rolled) in the sleeve. It someone touches it, it made it scream...Lot of jumpers that night.

check out my picture album - 2004 party to see what I mean.

So I've decided I'm going to have my party . Won't be big, but hopefully a lot of fun. Off the top of my head, I plan on inviting (including myself and roomie) about 20 people (hopefully not over). It's a small place, though.

Any more suggestions? My previous haunts have been graveyard themes, so I'm trying to figure out how to do a Graveyard theme. Maybe a Crypt theme?

Zeltino, I used to throw apartment parties all the time. Well, it was more like a condo, so something more like what you're tlaking about, never more than 800sq.ft.

Just try to keep things confined to the walls, to save space. Even when I've done a cemetary theme, I did tombstone silhouettes & skeletons on the walls. It helps if you have a fireplace to put stuff out on. I always made good use of mine and it became a good centerpiece and picture taking area for the parties. Also, lots of spiderwebs are a must! But I'm sure you already know that!

Good luck!

Well first off invite the neighbors and second find out what time you need to start to quiet down. Here its 6am to 10 pm and i make all the noise i want in those hours(lots of remodeling going on so i make some noise). As long as your not breaking any law i wouldnt worry about it. Have your party its not like your doing this everynight.

You can always go a different route and have a horror movie night for Halloween. You can still decorate the inside of your place, make some spooky finger foods, and either rent some of your favorite horror movies or ask each of your guests to bring their favorite.

I think most people are able to cope with a party if its not an every night thing
We don't live in an apt but we live in a cramped little deadend street.
We have one party per year....halloween And its a biggie....sometimes till 3 or 4 in the morning and music the whole time. The party is also held partly outside under a tent.
No one has ever complained. We do invite the neighbors but they don't attend.
Of course I don't complain either when the student on our street has a party, or when the other neighbor comes home drunk at 3 am or when the guy next to us has a whopper of a fight with his wife at 2 am.
