Question When should I start cooking for the party?

I've got three dishes that I am making from scratch: deviled eggs, sausage & cheese meatballs and "witch finger" cookies (sugar cookies).

I wanted to get them out of the way so I can just pull them out of the fridge and warm them up or plate them the day of the party (Saturday).

In the past, I've cooked the night before, but never two days out, so I don't know when to cook.

I'm pretty sure I can make the meatballs tonight (Thursday) and they would be fine, but what about the cookies and deviled eggs? Do I need to wait until Friday night to make sure that they aren't gross (in a bad way) for Saturday night?

Any experienced party chefs out there?

I made the cookies a month ahead and froze them. They were still great a week after the party. I'm not sure about the eggs. If I end up making them I think I'll boil them tomorrow and fill them Saturday morning before the party.

The cookies can be made several days ahead of time. Sugar cookies freeze great, but since your party is Saturday you can go ahead and make them today and they will still taste great for your party.

As for the meatballs, I don't know exactly how they are being made in your recipe, but I would suggest either forming the meatballs tomorrow and storing them in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook them for the party, or you can go ahead and make them and just reheat them before the party.

The deviled eggs can definitely be boiled today. You could probably even remove the shells and the yolks and mix up the filling and just store both parts separately and then fill them before the party.

Hope that helps!!

I usually do most of it the morning of the party. That way I don't havbe to be running around whne the gest come in the evning. And I like everything as fresh as I can make it.

But there are things that can be done ahead of time. It's really just personall preferance.

Okay - so I'm doing the meatballs and the cookies tonight, and will boil the eggs and make them up late Friday night.

Thanks!

Good question. I m always running around like a chicken with its head cut off (ooh good idea for a costum) I hate having to cook all day , on the day of the party, I much rather spend it doing detail stuff.
