Just emailed this from another thread but thought I would share with the rest of You. My party is this Friday and here is some of the stuff I have come up with.
Having a "Ghouls" only party this friday for about 14 women - we kinda went with witch theme because last year a bunch of us went on the halloween bus tour to all the taverns and I had bought witch hats for us all. The joke of the night was when a really drunk and quite rude girl got on bus and announced "she was the bitch of the bus" and then asked one of my friend if the seat next to her was taken (her witch hat was on it) and she replied (she is so quick witted) "sorry I would let you, but the last bitch that sat here melted". Gotta love it.. so it has been an outstanding joke. We even put on invites for those that were with on bus "the last witch that didn't show up melted".
So here is some of the stuff I have done - other than a lot of research on this forum and Martha stewart and elsewhere to get free to cheap and what can I use that I have ideas. Wanted to go with the still kind of classy gothic look decor.
I have been using my creative artistic talents and my computer to make very cheap to free decorations. For example my witches kitchen has a lot of potion bottles that I created with labels I found here on sight with things like Magical Maggot mash (rice) Brains of Warlock that wouldn't listen (cauliflower) Fairy Tears (blue wine bottle with sparkles dripping down) etc. I took a big soup pot and put some moss hanging out of it and some plastic spiders for "spider soup" to put on stove. I made fake book covers for all my recipe books to change them to "spell books"
I found some vines at forest preserve I am stringing from top of cabinets with purple lights and dried weeds upside down with labels (again in background I found here and saved as jpeg) with names like "nightshade" etc. I took and old book and made a "Spell book" to be propped open on counter (found ingredients ideas at a Harry potter site) this gets moss and a plastic rat on it. Dollar store eyeballs on a plate with a fork and a glass cover.
For the Bathroom - I cut out a ton of mice from the Martha Stewart site with her pattern/template out of black construction paper and they will be all over shelves etc. in bathroom, I painted on glass candles "eek!" and "boo" that will wash off after that I have staggered on shelf. On the mirror I am writing backwards something like "help I am captured behind mirror and they are coming to get me" falling off at end as if taken away or fell down (you get the picture)
The Bar area I purchased a bunch of glow in the dark skeletons and I have them glue gunned and hanging all over. Upside down from bar glasses, watching tv from shelve, driving the boat model etc.
The living room I am draping my furniture with white sheets and I have Bats (again Martha stewart idea/template) cut out of black construction paper to put on my lamp shades. I also cut out cat faces etc (again Martha) that you hook to back of candle and it shows face shadow on wall.
My bedroom I used a window silhouette picture I found and recreated it myself larger using two pieces of black poster board. I have a witch riding a broom and a witch dropping a bone into a kettle. I used my christmas candles to help illuminate. I am putting a dollar store witch hat on my pillow and making it look like a witch sleeping.. I am going to use my "snoring santa" under covers to make her snore and hopefully the covers go up and down. My girlfriend who is hosting party with me is bring her witch shoes to put by the bed.
With computer I printed up in creepy font and changed my sign at end of bed to "Sleep tight.. hope the bed bugs bite"
On front porch I used some old 2 x 4's and painted white and put "Come in" "and Sit" "a Spell" to put staggered on steps. I found a flat piece of driftwood and painted "Broom parking only" with a witch picture riding a broom. Then made a broom out of a thick stick some twine and some raffia I painted green. I also used an old broom from garage that I painted the bristles red and the stick alternating dark and light purples. I made luminaries that say "beware" "you" "may" "want" "to" "turn" "back in different fonts but it is supposed to rain and probably wont be able to use.
And off course a lot of candles - very low light to colored ones I found at dollar store - and fake spider webs.
My girlfriend is in charge of all the food since I have been doing all the decorating. I made a sign "dead mans diner" with tonights featured menu and then little signs for all food on computer and glued on folded over index cards.
Here is our menu - borrowed from muffysmet
grilled breast of buzzard (chicken on a stick)
Bat wings (chicken wings)
Sauteed intestines (cooked italian sausage bites)
Spooky shrimp platter (shrimp and cocktail sauce)
Dried skin chips and scab sauce (chips and salsa)
Vulture egg rolls (egg rolls)
Mark and Johns ribs (our husbands names/ bbq riblets)
Frankensteins select organ cuts with cheese "slabs" and bone crackers (deli meat slices, cheese, crackers)
Blood shot eyeballs (Deviled eggs)
Bat eyeballs and people pupils (black and green olive dish)
Mold and mildew dip (spinach dip)
Disturbing the dead dirt graveyard (dirt cake)
