I got the heart, brain and hand molds last year. They come with recipes for jell-o based molds, boring...I have been messing around with flavored cream cheese and chip dips and clear gelatin. I have found that just about any combo of 2 parts cream cheese one part chip dip/sour cream, 1 cup of milk and 1 package of gelatin makes an nice firm mold, use paste food coloring to achieve the correct color. I just finished a heart mold with vanilla flavored yogart, fruit flavor cream cheese, powder sugar..it taste great with fruit. It is far better than the standard jell-o mold. If anybody else has a good idea for these molds let me know. I already use the shrimp dip for the brain mold.
Are there any good ideas of what to use for a hand and brain mold? I have them both and haven't seen anything good too put in them that actually TASTES good as well!!!
Only thing that I use my brain mold for is to make one big jello shot. We then put out little cups that people can spoon off some "brain" and eat it. Used cherry jello last year that came out pretty good. Would love to find some way to make it glow in the blacklight.
im using my hand molds to make cheeseballs. one hand will be a regular cheeseball, and the other will by spicey. if you take the chipped beef and rip up pieces to put on top of the hands, it looks like skin.
A good thing to do with a glove instead of using a hand mold is buy a latex or plastic glove. Clean it well cause they all smell nasty for some reason. Put green or red Kool-aid in the glove seel it off and freeze it. Then have a bowl of the opposite color in a large punch bowl and put the frozen hand in. You've got a neat looking punch bowl and a way to keep it cool.
Add the package of gelatin (unflavored) to about 1 cup of warm milk, then let it set for a min then add to the melted cream cheese mixture. Be careful with the yogart, if it is soft the mold does not seems to set up. I pitched the yogart mold and just made one with cream cheese, poweder sugar, vanilla and white choc., it tastes yummy, let see if it will set up, let you know in the morning.
I was trying to find mold recipes that weren't desert also for my brain mold. I found one online that was cream of mushroom soup, cream cheese, shrimp and 1pkg gelatin softened in 1/4 cup of water. This sounded like something I could drizzle cocktail sauce into the brain crevices or serve it on top of cocktail sauce. I wasn't sure I liked the sounds of the mushroom soup part??!! Do you think it would work with just the cream cheese and the shrimp (or crabmeat) and gelatin? My family has a great dip recipe that is crabmeat ant cocktail sauce mixed together and spread on top of a mound of cream cheese, usually served with crackers. I was hoping this might taste similar!!??
mushroom soup sounds good. it is just really a small flavoring. It also is for keeping things together. www.britta.com section recipes shows the brain dip. It looks awesome. CC
My final versions are setting up (I hope) in the fridge now. I used cream of celery instead of the cream of mushroom, icky! Cream cheese, hot sause a bit of lemon juice and some french dressing plus the shrimp. I also made a hand that was made of veggie flavor cream cheese, garlic and onion cream cheese and toasted onion dip and then the heart mold is two cream cheeses, white choc. and powder sugar. Got the wedding cake, ala "Great expectations" ready, choc. bones, witches fingers. Tomorrow: Bat wings and monster eyes
