My husband built us a covered front porch. It is 9' deep by 50' long. Obviously I had been thinking how I will decorate it for Halloween, but I am overwhelmed with thoughts. I don't know what theme I'm going with, but did buy from Spirit those cardboard posts with the lanterns hanging from them. I'm also thinking of suspending lots of candles with fishing line from the porch ceiling. Any other ideas?

9'x50' is a pretty big space to figure out how to decorate but if you have a theme for your yard haunt it is easier to figure out. Personaly a porch that long would lend itself nicely to a mobile home in a swamp... get a bunch of reeds (cattail and pampus grass) some corn stalks and tree branches to dress the facade place your stones (if you have some) in the front yard with more pampus and cattails around them and tree branchs with moss... smoke (fog) the yard with ground effects (you'll probably want to build a chiller if you haven't already) and light your porch with a yellow light hung in the middle. Get a rocking chair, some old jugs and a couple of round tables... put cloths on the tables, set the rocker up on a piston to rock it... get a skeleton for the occupant.. Dress out with rats, bats, mice and insects... Spiders ect. I think it would be awesome. I am envious.
Why are you afraid of zombies anyway? They only eat brains, so you're safe

What an awesome space to work with! Two questions for you - 1. Do you already have a yard display going, and if so, what is the overall "theme"? 2. Will trick-or-treaters be walking through the entire porch, or is your front door in the center and they will simply be walking up to the door and looking to either side at the display? If you truly are starting from scratch everywhere, to avoid getting overwhelmed I'd start with your "classic Halloween" items that you love (like your posts and lanterns, tombstones, skeletons, etc.) and work on filling the space a little bit. Then you can start find-tuning your theme as the haunt develops. Either way, anything hanging from the ceiling would look awesome from the porch and from the street!

We don't get tot's, unfortunately, because we're not in a neighborhood. But we throw a huge party for my kids, their classmates and parents. I do have a lot of decor, but it's all very general. This is what I have to work with if it can give y'all any ideas...animated witch & cauldron, ground breaker zombie fogger, ground fog machine, animated jumping spider, animated spell book, whole skeleton, furry rats, lots of skulls, bags of Spanish moss, potion bottles, and various other generic decorations. I love, love, love the ideas using cat tails and making a swampy voodoo kind of theme. Maybe I can get one of those full sizes alligators. I had a haunted trail last year so I would love to move that to my porch. How could I do that with no turns?

Oh yes. My front door is in the center & porch swings on each end.
