Early on this year, I had a whole bunch of positive responses and was planning a party for 55-70 people, which was in line with the way in which my party has grown over the years. At that size, dancing and drinking are widely accepted as okay activities but the smaller the groups the more stuff you have to do to keep people entertained because there aren't as many people to socialize with and you can't just crank the music and have people dancing. I had also planned to have live entertainers in the form of improv "evil fairy" actresses playing games with people, passing out favors and making sure everyone is entertained but at with not 25 people RSVPd, a week and a half out, I think having actors would seem pretentious and people would feel too inhibited to enjoy. As it is, my decoration and music will be TOTALLY over the top for this few people I think. I know 25 isn't a small crowd and I have had some great parties in years past with similar and smaller numbers. I had just set my hopes and expectations much higher and planned accordingly. I would be lying if I said I'm not a little bummed.

So I have to lower my expectations here and find some activities that will entertain a smaller crowd. I need ideas that are cheap/free but not "games" per se, I have figured that with my crowd games tend to slow and/or kill the mood and many people don't want to participate. I will have bobbing for apples but that's about it and I expect less than half the people there to participate.

I should also note that my theme is "twisted fairy tales" so anything that could incorporate that theme would be awesome!

I would be very happy with 25 guests lol. RSVP is this Friday and we only have about 14 yes's. But that's ok, we're still going to have a blast! I planned Tempt Your Fate and Winking Murderer to play. Music will be on so anyone can dance if they so choose to. Also, my friend is bringing over his karaoke machine.

ooo, can't wait to see your pics stargirl cause this is going to be my next theme. Actually, my daughter wanted to do a 'Scarey Tales' party and we sat down and came up with about thirty fairy tale/nursery rhymes props we could make. I decided that I didn't have the time or the funds for this year and shelved it till next year. An activity she suggested would be to place a number by each prop and hand out sheets of paper with a list of the names of the props (Snow Fright, Little Dead Riding Hood, the Not So Itsy Bitsy Spider.....) and the guests would write the corresponding number on their paper. Whoever finishes first, with the most correct matches would win a prize basket.

There was a game last year (Heather came up with it I think????) that was like movie trivia. Have the movie posters without any of the titles or actors names for people to guess. It was just an optional game in our house. We had it set up on a digital photo frame as then we didn't have to worry about printing up pictures and having them stuck up in the house. It was also good since it was kinda unobtrusive so if people don't want to play, they don't have to. And if you only give out a first place prize for most correct answers, its almost free.
I can email you the images I've got for this years one- 30 movies, mostly recent, or just write out a list of horror/thriller movies and then google image search for them. Use paint or photoshop etc to take out details.

Rosella, I would LOVE that email : melrosewyatt@yahoo.com People really love that one, Star girl.. Another one is "who am I" You put a sticker on the person's back and they have to go around asking people yes or no questions to figure out who they are.. Only one question per guest allows everyone to mingle with everyone. We do this every year, usually going with our theme. Last year was famous couples, and the person not only had to guess who she was , but go find her partner. Example" Fred and Wilma" This year is Horror movie theme, so we have Freddy, Jason, Cujo, etc.

You can also play "Forbidden word", you put a sticker on them (or a foamy sticker, or toe tag pinned, etc) and they cannot say a certain word , like "costume" or "drink" If someone hears them say that word , they get their sticker. At a certain time in the evening, whomever has the most stickers , wins. Also encourages everyone to talk, so that they can get that person to say the forbidden word We always have between 20-30 people and those games go over very well.

We also do a trivia game. We put a list of about 20 Questions (some taken from this forum) and number them and post them in the hallway to the bathroom. We put paper and pens nearby, and a box to put the answers. People can guess during the night, and put their answers in the box.

If you need lists of names for stickers, or our trivia questions, just let me know, I can email them to you

My group's favorite party game right now is basically a Telephone/Pictionary game. I know they have a couple of these games on the market (one is called Scribblish), but we just make our own and it works even better for themed parties.

    Here is the general idea:
    1. Before your party, make a whole bunch of cards with spooky song titles, scary movie titles, halloween themed items, etc..
    2. At the party, have everyone sit in a circle. Then pass out a sheet of paper and a pen/pencil to everyone.
    3. Everyone draws a card and has to draw what they see on the card.
    4. After they are done, they pass their paper (with their drawing) to the person on their right.
    5. Then that person has to guess what they drew and write down their guess underneath the drawing. After the have written their guess, they fold over the drawing of the first person and pass the paper to the person on their right.
    6. That person then has to draw what that person wrote down.
    7. This continues around the circle in the same way (drawing, writing, folding over) until it makes it back to the original artist. It's a really fun game because everyone is constantly kept busy and really hilarious because it gets ridiculous very fast. By the time the paper makes it back around, you won't even recognize it. It can be played with kids or adults (I've done both) and as tame or adult-themed too as you want. Believe me, after a few drinks, people get a lot more creative with their artistic works! ;-)

    Good luck for your party!

This is an AWESOME idea. Really this idea could be expounded upon to include scavenger items or if I make jpegs of text it could include trivia. This would have been a good idea no matter what the size, although with too big of a crowd you may need a bigger photo frame, but no one HAS to participate if you don't want to. I think I may be borrowing a digital photo frame because I have some other ideas now. O WAIT I am already setting up a projector with ambient imagry (I told you it was over-the top) I think I will incorporate some trivia and photo-shopped imagery inbetween with slips of papers for guests to write down answers. LOVE IT!

Star-girl, adding text into the game is a great idea
yummum - I emailed you today the game I have for this year. If it hasn't got there or worked, PM me and I'll re-send

And just to reiterate, this isn't my idea!! I don't want to take credit away from the creator, I just find the game great for a party that I had to share
