Has anyone ever hired a palm reader/tarot card reader/psychic for their party? I thought it might be a fun "halloweenie" thing for my guests to do, if they're interested. If so, was it worth it?

I read tarot cards during the parties, and it usually was a big hit. BUT I do start out stating that this is purely for entertainment purposes, I am not possessed, a devil-worshipper or other such nonsense. I know one guest that always refuses based on her fear of the supernatural/religious beliefs, but that's completely her right.

I'd make sure anyone you hired knew it was a flat fee and wouldn't be demanding payment from your guests...a tip jar would be cool, but they shouldn't make your guests feel obligated.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

We hired a card reader for our Halloween wedding. We paid $100 for the 3 hours. It was a huge success.

I have had one come to my last three partys. People seemed to really like it, which is why I keep having him back.

I'm glad you all have had success with this idea. I just thought my guests would get a kick out of it, but I certainly don't want to offend any of them. I will have to give it a little more thought. Those of you that hired out, how and where did you find this person? Did you just run a google search?

our card reader was just someone we already knew. If you knew any Wiccans, one of them might be a reader.

We have a psychic at our party every year. She is a friend of mine and my party guests love it! We set up a tent for her in the backyard and the guests have to go through our haunted cemetary to get to her. I put a tip jar on the table and they can chose to tip or not. We always have a line of people waiting to talk to her so this year I decided to have people put thier name in a hat and limit the readings to 20 minutes each for 2 hours total. She never gets to enjoy the party. There will always be some guests that don't feel comfortable with it but for the most part everyone knows it is for fun only.

You could try Craigslist. I have never hired anyone like that but I did hire a magician for a Halloween party 2 years back using Craigslist. I have seen many people offering up palmistry and tarot readings on Craigslist this time of year. I'll bet if there is a metaphysical shop nearby you could ask if they knew of anyone.

One year we had a very creative family friend dress up and do readings. Her and I made up all sorts of fun fortunes for guests that she used. She was great. Another year I hired an actor from the local playhouse to come in. She showed up 2 hrs late & the whole thing was bad. Good luck.
love them or lose them
