I have plenty of bad fates, but what about good ones? I will be giving out prizes such as beer coozies with candy, lotto tickets, and small bottles of alcohol, BUT what should the fate actually read?
Also, I am still having a little trouble with planning the specifics of this game. How will the guests be given their fates? I have read suggestions of pulling out of a crystal ball, popping balloons, and ringing a loud door knocker. All are great ideas, but I'm not sure with the size of my party and with music playing loudly, everyone will know someone has Tempted Fate. I would also like the crowd to know what the guests received as a fate.
Someone suggested guests pulling a number out of a crystal ball, bring the number to me, and then I read the corresponding fate aloud on our PA system. (The number so guests won't read fate - decide they don't want to do it - and pull out a different one). However, would this be too redundant? Shouldn't I just eliminate the first step all together and have them just come to me directly for a fate? Maybe summon me with an air horn or something?
BAH! It's that time of the year where I am so involved in planning that I become overwhelmed by the simple things. Please HELP ME!

The past three years I have put the fates in balloons. I have about 50 people at my party. Even with the music going everyone hears the balloon pop. I just have them strewn about the floors so it adds a touch of decor too.
When a person pops a balloon everyone stops to watch what is gonna happen. Its gets everyone involved pretty quickly.

I make an announcement - yelling "Name is TEMPTING THEIR FATE!"

We do the balloons, and on the few occasions that someone tried to do it, you can hear the POP, and laughing as they scramble around looking for that darn slip of paper...
I number the prizes for good fates, make matching number tags and fold them up and put them in a wicker pumpkin. If they get a good fate, they select a number, and I get the matching number's prize.
I have a small ornate coffin that I use for the drawing of bad fates (which are all little rhymes on paper to tell them what they have to do...)

The wording kinda depends on how you're wording your bad fates as it should all flow and make sense IMO- eg a few of my bad fates sounded like--
You have tempted fate & for this you shall be punished...
You have tempted fate & fate shall test your knowledge... then the consequence like doing a particular shot.
Keeping in mind that my hubby and I were Dead Riding Hood and Wolf, these are example of my good fates-- think I 'borrowed' these ideas from others on the forum so not trying to take credit if your original idea is here
You have tempted fate & fate is happy with you . Bring this fortune to Little Dead Riding Hood for a treat.
You have tempted fate & fate wants you to have more fun. Bring this fortune to Little Dead Riding Hood for a treat.
You have tempted fate & fate has taken pity on you. Bring this fortune to Little Dead Riding Hood for a treat.
You have tempted fate & fate is pleased with you. Bring this fortune to Little Dead Riding Hood for a treat.
You have tempted fate & fate looks upon you with favour. Bring this fortune to Little Dead Riding Hood for a treat.
You have tempted fate & fate wants you to cheat, use this card to steal a prize from another.
You have tempted fate & fate has taken pity on you. Use this card to pass your next bad fate to another.
You have tempted fate & fate wants you to have more fun. Choose another to pick the next fate card.
You have tempted fate & sees potential in you. Choose another to show their karaoke skills.
You have tempted fate & fate shall be lenient. You may choose another to do your next bad fate.Growing old is compulsory; growing up is optional. -- Bob Monkhouse

We have been using a cowbell for the signal that a guest is ready to Tempt their Fate. It is loud and annoying enough to be heard over the party sounds!
For bad fates, the card reads "Fate Mocks You, you must..."
For good fates, the card reads "Fate has Smiled upon you, you receive gift number..." and we have everything in numbered gift bags. And some of the gift bags have cards in them that say "Fate Mocks you after all! You must draw another Fate."

I'm doing this game for the first time this year (super excited to see how it turns out
) All of my good fates will say the same thing.... can't remember exactly what that is at the moment
I'm going to put all of the prizes into a big cauldron. Whenever someone gets a good fate, I'll let them reach into the cauldron and blindly pick a prize out. So far for prizes, I've purchased 4 Yankee Halloween votives, Left Center Right game from Spirit, a spooky sounds CD, 2 chocolate chip cookies in decorative Halloween tins (Target), a Halloween note pad (also Target), 4 Autumn scented hand sanitizers from B&BW, a 'grow in water' skeleton and 2 horror movies ($5 bin at walmart). I also plan on getting some Halloween scratch tickets and a couple of $5 Dunkin Donuts gift cards.

some good fates im doing:
take a gift from the box (small party favours)
Draw a new card and make someone else do the fate but keep the card for counting.
choose someone to be youre waiter for the next 30 mins ( and they have to say yes or they loose a point)
choose someone to give u a shoulder rub for 15 minutes
choose someone to dance like a zombie for the next two songs
well.. u get the point.. my " good" fates are still mean -to another person ..

Hey, speaking of balloons, I know Frankie said she puts hers on the floor, but anyone know an easy way to get helium? I don't wnat to spend the $45 or whatever at Party City for a helium tank...ideas?
I LOVE the idea of good and bad fates. I recall seeing some threads here that someone had enumerated and listed a slew of them. Maybe there should be a master thread for just this game at this point!
