I have a problem.
There is a lot I want to do this year and just can't figure out a date schedule. Any suggestions are much appreciated!
We've done a Haunted House in our garage the last few years. Because Halloween is on a Monday most of my helpers aren't able to make it that night, they don't get off work until after 5 and its at least, a 45 minute drive etc.. They are all really bummed too so we came up with the idea of doing the full scale actor haunt on Saturday the 29th, and then I will do a walk through version on Monday with my electronic props more of the predominant feature. I am going to put signs up around the neighborhood especially near all the bus stops advertising it.
So I am not sure what to do about the party now. One thought is Friday. But I am afraid it will make us too exhausted Saturday for the Haunt.
The other idea was the weekend before, Saturday the 22nd. But already two of my good friends who are always great sports and big into the costume part will be out of town.
Another thought was combine the haunt with the party on Saturday. Have the haunt 6 to 8:30 and have the invitations say 7 (no one shows up until 8 anyway) Then the people who do arrive early can go through the haunted house. That would be alot of work but maybe fun too.
Decisions! Decisions!
I need to come up with something soon and send out save the dates.

I like the idea of combining the haunt and the party. You're absolutely right, most people show up fashionably late anyhow (although many would probably show up early to see your haunt). Even though it will be a ton of work in one night, you'll have a much better chance of most people showing up, plus you'll be running on adrenaline. It also sounds really exciting to have both, and if I was your party-goer I'd definitely be stoked! Then on Monday, you can just relax and enjoy your trick-or-treaters.

i would combine it and do it on the 29th. you could always say haunted house from X time to X time, party starts at Y time...

I am starting to like that idea too.
We were all so pumped up last year and the haunt died early we were just getting Ready to go!

That isn't a terrible idea, but if you are thinking it would be too much in one night, maybe you could do a party even early in the month, giving some rest time to enjoy everyone else's parties before the final push to the the haunt. Just a thought but I don't think it would be bad to do it either way.

Love the idea of combining- especially as you said last year you were just getting into the groove and the ToTs finished- at least with a party you'll be able to keep the party going

Ok I had a talk with my friends.
A lot of them work at the highschool, and half of my haunt helpers are students/or their kids. They were looking forward to an adult night (teen free) to cut loose, and they definitely wouldn't if there students and kids are there. Plus now that I think about it, it would be inappropriate to have drinking at a party with teens.
So I am splitting it up.
And one of the friends who can't make the party, is going to help in the haunted house now. Plus I will do an open house that night just a few snacks and cider.
