Hi!
This is my first post to the group, and I'm glad that I found it! DH and I love Halloween and were excited when our DD said that she wanted a Halloween birthday party this year. So I've got just over a month to plan her birthday party, but am stumped on what to do. The guest list will be comprised of kids between 1-7 years old, so we can't do anything too scary. I'm also looking for a creative wording for our invitations.
Thank you for your help!!!!
My ideas so far:
- Mini pumpkin decorating
- Pin the Wart on the Witch
- Possibly a "witches brew" scavenger hunt----the older kids will be given a list of things to find hidden in the yard
- Pinata
- Other ideas???

When my son was her age we did a party...a few things we did were pin the nose on frankenstien, the mummy wrap game (for this age I would get crepe paper as it doesnt tear as easily as toilet paper) and a small craft (orientaltrading.com), reading of a Halloween story and the kids had a blast...add in food, candy and maybe decorating cookies or cupcakes and they are loving it.
Dont over plan...your party sounds perfect. When we did ours I had so much going on and the kids pooped out before we were done.
Tip: Have a Halloween cartoon on hand just in case...this can give you a quick break if you need one
As for decor..I would go with ghosts/haunted house...not too scary but scary enough. Make some of the cheese cloth ghosts (with starch) and hung them in the livingroom so it looked like they are flying(make them look fun/friendly not scary)...you could make some fake light weight books or candles and suspend them from the ceiling. Put white sheets over the furniture (double duty decorating/prevents stains, lol),replace family photos with pics of halloween characters from cartoons (so its not to scary), and cobwebs, lots and lots of cobwebs. The best part is most of these decoations are fairly cheap

orientaltrading. com canbe your best friend.
we did a monster theme one year - they have cute (not scary) monster plates and stuff. also lots of cute halloween craft projects.
i alsolet the kids decorate a mini pumpkin-put out acrylic (or tempera, whatever you have)paints and let them have fun!
i made an eyeball pinata that the kids really likedNever jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker. - Linus

I LOVE the eyeball pinata idea!
This isn't really a halloween idea, but for a few of my daughter's parties now I've covered the floor of out family foom with balloons, like at least 50 of them. I usually recruit my son to help me blow them up, and start at least a day if not 2 days ahead of time. It's always so cute to see the kids kicking balloons, playing volleyball with them, and even the adults end up having a balloon fight. It's SO easy to clean up, and it really keeps everyone amused, and it looks really cute. You could go with black and orange, orange pumpkin face balloons, or even green for witch cauldron bubbles.
I would make a game out of tossing something into a cauldron, maybe a rubber toad?
All of your ideas sound GREAT! I'd love to plan a kid's Halloween party, I'm jealous!

My daughter is turning 5 too, on Oct. 24th. She wants a mermaid/ pirate party and the house will already be decorated for the Halloween party. I will have to put the scary stuff away when her little friends come over. She is desensitized but they aren't. I love all the ideas. We are doing a treasure hunt. One clue leads to another and another and then to a map then to a treasure chest filled with their treat bags. Mermaid pinata, silly string fight(outside) if it's not raining. We are also doing the mini pumpkin thing and maybe a craft. A lot of parents think 3 hour parties are too long but I always want it to last FOREVER!! Then we are having a haunted house/party the following weekend. Sooo excited!!! Have fun!!!

I think they will have a blast no matter what you decide to do! Halloween is such a fun theme! This will be the 2nd halloween birthday we've thrown for my son. The first one was his 7th birthday- we did a scavanger hunt- fairly simple and I let each team have an adult to help guide them if they got stuck. We used our entire street (small street with about 18 houses) and most of the neighbors agreed to let me hide clues on their lawn. Kids had a blast. We also handed out prizes for best costumes.

Hi there. I did our sons first bday as halloween theme and it turned out awesome. Lots of great food ideas but not good with the games. I know if you make spaghetti noodles and mix in peeled grapes fake fingers and spiders then bury something in there that the kids have to dig through to find its pretty funny to watch them squirm. If you want personalized decorations they have them at Birthdayexpress.com I got a black banner with a ghost that said Happy Birthday and my sons name.
Oatmeal no-bake fudgies (cookies) Use stick pretzels for legs and m & m's for eyes and they look like spiders.
Deviled eggs made to look like eyes with sliced black olives on top. This works good for pinwheels too. (the tortillas rolled with turkey, cheese, lettuce, etc.)
Brownie graveyard. Use cocunut shavings with green food color for the top and broken graham crackers for the headstones.
Hot dogs mummies. Use pilsbury cresent dough and roll up the hot dogs. use dots of ketchup or mustard for eyes.
I also turned my layered bean dip into a cemetary.
Good Luck!

Hi there. My son is turning 5 on the 24th of Oct. also! It is so hard not to have a halloween party for him every year with as much as I LOVE Halloween. But since he and my older son (born Nov.) are so close we now incorporate their parties. Its impossible to get everyone to come to 2 separate parties in a months time. By the way I love your quote. Now that I am a mom I feel like Halloween is the only time I can let out my inner goth and get away with it! lol!

Darkinside, I too have the inner Goth thing going, I should post pics from high school, not that my parents took any, but friends did. I keep them hidden from the kids LOL I turn 40 this Sat. so I can't get away with the "look" anymore. With all the parties I think everyone will be sick of me by Nov. HAHA so I know what you mean. I TRY to keep her party separate because until it's HER idea to do a combo party, I don't want to steal her thunder. Luckily most of the Halloween party guests are different from the bday ones. My older daughter is 11 so there's a HUGE difference in how much scary they can handle LOL My daughter was due on Halloween but had to come early C-section, but I still managed to trick or treat with the older one a week later(like a few stitches was gonna take that from me) Anyway, tell your son Happy b-day for us and have a great time!!
