Not the most appealing idea, but my friends have asked me to help them decorate their backyard for a Halloween party, and they have this hot tub out there... ideally, I want to have smoke machines and black lights and put some tonic water in the hot tub to make it glow in the black lights, but has anyone actually had experience with this? Will it destroy the tub or the vents, or could it be OK for one night if we drain it before morning?

It has sugar in it, but not much, so it'll attract bugs and things. I'm not sure if all brands have sugar (the bottle I have right now is Target brand). If you can find it without sugar, I'd let it de-fizz before putting it in the pool. Otherwise it's probably cleaner than the stuff that comes out of the hose!
You may be able to get this effect without tonic water. I was at a customer's house earlier this year and they had this incredibly intense blue light (probably LED) in their pool that made it glow enough that it was probably giving them all eye damage (LED super bright blue is often powerful enough to cause retinal damage). Maybe try to find something like that in green instead of blue.

Oh, excellent idea! I'll check that out.
I'm not too concerned about the sugar content, only because I live up north and by October all the bugs are hiding and/or dead because of the cold! :-) But the less sugar the better... particularly if people actually decide to get IN to the hot tub...

You can get diet tonic water that doesn't have sugar in it. Personally I've never gotten it to glow all that bright, but it might just be me. Or maybe diet just doesn't glow as much. I like the LED idea, though. You could make it bright green and then if the water is hot and bubbly and the air is cool it will fog and mist all on it's own. Seems like it would look cool (in my head it does, anyway, kind of like a giant sqare cauldron...). Ooooh, you could throw some floating skulls & bones in too! Now I wish I had a hottub.

You could throw some dry ice in (put it in some kind of mesh cage so people can't accidentally directly stand on it) or get an ultrasonic mister for it. And then a floating gator going by...

I have a huttub on my patio and was wondering the same thing. Oct weather here is hit or miss, but we have had some parties where it was warm/cool enough to go outside.
I was thinking of just getting a big solid block of dry ice and floating it in there. Normally they freeze up, but 875 gallons of 102 degree water ought to do the trick.
If I do it, I will post pics in this thread after the party...JH

I can't imagine getting enough Tonic Water to fill a hot tub. Mine actually has lights in it, red, blue, green, and it is quite a few years old.
Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

I just did a search for "Submersible LED" on eBay.
Maybe there is something in there that would be easy and inexpensive...
I use this Fog Mister from Oriental Trading Company every year (for the past 8 years). It looks really great! It has a color-changing LED, and the mist is really cool. But it needs to be in something kind of shallow. You may be able to float it in something inside the jacuzzi. Here's how I use it:

Oooh, yeah perhaps I'll find a little something to float it in the hot tub...
I might just test it out with Tonic Water for a night to see what happens and how much Tonic Water I'd need to make it glow. i don't need something intense, just enough glow to make it look strange, and if it's dark enough I won't really need much and I can mix it with the water.
I'll play around with it and post my results :-)

I have not any idea about tonic powder But I feel good bath in Hot tubs. I generally use necessary accessories like Hot water, Shampoo, Soap and other. I really remove my stress from Hot Tubs. Thanks for share with me regarding Tonic Powder.
