We were going to do our annual haunt/party this year with a pirate theme, but finances and time are making us push it back to next year... So... I am scrambling to find a new theme for our party this year. Has anyone ever done a take on Christmas with a Halloween twist before? I have considered doing a Happy HALLOW-DAYS theme and integrating all of our Halloween decorations in with some Christmas theming. Same with the foods- wreath cookies in halloween colors and candy canes, etc. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!!!

I'm kinda in the same boat. Hubby is still laid off from work (since December!). So I've decided to scratch the idea of a backyard haunt for my party guests to walk though. I'm quite disappointed, but what can ya do right? Such is life! That's actually a pretty cool idea you have there. I've never thought of it myself, nor have I seen anything like it. Oooo you could make like zombie gingerbread men
Set up your tree and decorate with orange mini lights and all sorts of creepy things (hands, feet, skulls, rats), use cobwebs in place of traditional Christmas garland lol. The more I think of it, I really like the idea!

Thanks! We spent some time really thinking about it this weekend, and after that, I am really excited and think it is going to work. Playing with some ideas now... worked up some invite wording last night. What do you think? Any suggestions? Additions?
Twas the night before Halloween, and all through the house
Every creature was stirring, yes- even the mouse.
The jack o'lanterns were placed by the chimney with care,
In hopes that ghosts and goblins soon would be there.

You might want to check out Dave Lowe's and Stolloween's websites. They do a lot of stuff with, well, trash. It's pretty awesome stuff.

Another option for you is "Ghosts of Halloween Past." We did that theme for our tenth annual party. We resurrected scenes from previous parties and themes and interspersed them throughout the house.

I like that one a lot too, and think in another few years it would be fun for us... we've only been seriously hosting the party for 4 or 5 years, so I want to build a couple of more before we bring back the ghosts of the past =)
So far, the invites are done, and we are working on decorations. There will (of course) be a tree with spookily wrapped presents underneath it, and some additional trees decorated with seasonal Halloween things- skeleton garland, heads, spiders, etc., We also have some of of those big white light trees from Christmas that I am going to decorate with balls (black, orange, purple) and spider garland and uplight with some colored lights. Lots of jack o'lanterns all around, some topped with Santa Hats or surrounded in tinsel. Have some great "stockings" that look like witches legs that are going to hang over the fireplace. Going to intersperse the light up candy canes and illuminated skeleton bones on our walkway leading to the house. Keep trying to think of more I can do both inside and outside.

It would be great if you could put up a strand of the fat Christmas bulbs (I think they are C9's) in orange and white outside! Those types of lights just say "Christmas" for me!
