Well, here it is 62 days till Halloween, and I am not feeling very excited about my theme which is Superheroes & Villains. At first it seemed like such a great idea, but now, it seems kinda boring (decoration-wise). My original thought was to give all my spiders, skulls, etc. a rest and just decorate with lots of pumpkins. Now this seems so blah. I don't want to change my theme this late in the game since I have already told people and bought a big Spiderman cling, a bunch of posters & some t-shirts that will become pillows.

The party is usually held in my backyard, but the front yard, & 1st floor of my house are decorated relating to my theme. Pumpkins everywhere? Where's the creativity in that? WHAT WAS I THINKING? Even my invitation idea is a bore.

Does it seem out of place to at least set out a cemetary?

Has this happened to anyone else? And if so, what did you do to bring back the excitment?
Oooh eee oooh ah ah ting tang walla walla bing bang...

Focus on the villains! Find Halloween themed ones like the Green Goblin or Hobgoblin (Pumpkin Bombs!) macabre ones like the more disgusting versions of Two-Face, demons like Mephisto or rarer ones like Atomic Skull.

Perhaps if someone has some carving skills you could carve up some pumpkins with villain faces. Or a twisted cemetery with tombstones depicting the death of the superheros. The Wanted Posters of heroes was a great idea someone had. I am setting up a big green glowing punch bowl of "Kryptonite", and using my skeleton with a superman cape on it to prop up next to it with a glowing glass We are doing the same theme so I'd be happy to share ideas. I actually chose this theme because I am not able to commit as much effort to my party this year and was looking for an easier theme. I think my decorations are going to be a little less this year, but I have a feeling that once all my guests show up in their Hero/Villain costumes that the party will totally look the part!

I did a 'Similar' Theme last year except it was Heroes and Villains - It was Much Broader!! Some Costumes went the Superhero way, but we also had Disney Villains, Had one Couple as a Bandit and a Cop, Superheros from South Park, Horror Movie Villains, Political, Fireman, Teacher Etc.

We also played a lot of Minute to Win it games and pitted Heroes VS Villains to see who ultimately would win Good or Evil, everyone's costume fit one or the other category (FYI Good over came Evil).

Kinda Remorseful with my Theme - I am Excited about it - But Not Sure on My Costume - And wording for Invite -- Theme is Time Travel - Once I finalize on my costume I think I will feel better!

How Fun! This is a theme that is on my list of parties to do sometime.

As Badgirl says, I think it is one of the less decorating themes out there. The costumes themselves will be what makes the theme. Those are great ideas you have so far!

Invite could be like a Comic Book. You could do signs or what not that say "Pow" "Bang" and either hang them or give them to people. Come up with some type of cheap trinkets (or homemade) that represent their super powers. Replace your pictures with pictures of Heroe and Villains or scenes from comic books. If you do pot-luck, the guests can bring food colored to their character (blue and red for Superman, red and black for Spiderman, etc). Sprinkle comic books around the party area.

Here is a link with a lot of good ideas -- http://www.suite101.com/content/host...n-party-a72804

And here is a Superhero forum -- http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=312758

Good luck and hope to see photos if you go this route!

I did that theme last year & loved it. Everyone's costume fit in some way. Check out my photo albums for some ideas. (Although I see now I didn't load many pictures. I will do this when I get home from work) For decor, I used my usual decor outside. Inside, mostly due to my awesome secret reaper I had great speech bubbles & posters on the walls "Blam" "Kapow" etc. We did a comic book page painting in the garage as the photo op area.

Here is our invite. Was supposed to look like a comic book cover.

I'm changing my mind, too. I was going to do the twisted fairy tales, but now because of budget restraints, I'm not. maybe next year!

Halloween Princess: I am totally stealing your photo background idea! Trying to set up my webcam/laptop so guests can take their own pics photo booth style.

You could use one of the huge 4X8 insulation foam sheets to paint a backdrop or other scenes. Use newsprint (both black and white and the funnies to decorate a room for a Superman scene for Clark Kent. (or make a phone booth). THink the huge white bubbles all over the place with comments would go a long way, too. These are such iconic symbols for super heroes. Definitely play off the crytonite, big Bat symbol.

I love the idea of making it any super hero or villian. Think of mighty mouse, and the little guy who was evil in the cartoons and tied up the girl on the train tracks, Green Hornet, Spiderman---have a web room. Sexy Cat Woman, WOnderwoman. I see those large green Hulk boxing hands in thrift stores all the time. There are so many to choose from. You could even make a DVD of pictures of them for a matching game or put them on a digital frame. Posters of super heroes and villiams are probably available cheap on ebay. I think you could have a lot of fun and be creative. Just broaden you scope some.

Skellycat, consister shifting gears since you are in this theme funk.

Keep the overall theme, but think out of the box. Let it be a retreat for Superheroes and Villians. A twist of fate and they all end up in the same place---a great haunted house that used to be used by the great ancestors and ironically the final resting places for many of these late great super heroes and villians (hence a cemetery). Due to the fact that the retreat spot is such hallowed ground--the super heroes and villians call a truce of this one night. You could have a bat cave, a spiders lair, even a witches lair or kitchen where the great witchy villians learned their trades or a take on Hogwards wizard school. Even make up a classroom for the super heroes and/or villians. Maybe even a big picture of the good witch Gynda who represents the good hero witch. A school room or museum of posters of some of the greats with either posters and/or photos that you print off and hang around.
