We throw a party every year and this year has been so busy and will continue to be so. I would love to throw a party especially since everyone expects one, but i wont be able to do all the details i enjoy doing. Can i get a way with a simple party so as to provide something for all of us and NOT having it be disappointing? Maybe a "bare to the bone" theme...lol? Any suggestions or if you've been in this sitch, please share

Me personally, if I can't do it big, I don't want to do it at all.

If you think you'll be okay with not dragging out all the decorations and going to the level you normally do, then I'd say go for it. You could just do a Horror Movie potluck type thing where your friends bring a dish, have some wine and beer and soda and be more "sitting around talking, eating and watching movies" type of gathering than a full-on party. Costumes optional I would think since you wouldn't want to run a contest...

So basically, it would be a normal party - not necessarily a Halloween party. Would that be disappointing?

If you are going to have a party, it should be a Halloween party. I know how it feels to not be able to pull it ALL together, but to me I would much rather go light than not a all.

Do something that would reflect the theme of bare to the bones as suggested. Or use the economy as a base...something like Hard Times at Haunted House. I have a brain freeze at the moment, but I think you could bring this into your theme somehow. I am really pressed for time this year and also money is very tight. I had debated not having a party or bringing it down to just one. There was alot of comment on the witchy party threads of others being the same way financially, too.

I have decided to go ahead and just cut things down. I am headed out of town next weekend for over a week and that will cut into my planning and decorating. It is just too hot to be trying to pull out my tubs and boxes. We usually start that Labor Day weekend, but will be gone. With temps in the triple digits still it is too blasted hot.

I thought about using a Hell theme of some sort as a take off, but don't really like it.

I am planning to let people bring foods for the first time. We are going to add it to the contests. A big prize for the best presentation. I am still working on the details.

I may even come up with a Spell where we conjure up a better financial picture for the year so we can buy better grades of eye of newts, etc. (It is still just an idea, but one that I plan to work out---maybe with some input from here.

With the stock market falling, mortgage crisis, recent past of all the bail outs and now all the natural disasters and extreme weather shifts, I am sure that there is a theme in her somewhere.

Please, don't give up your party. I think that you will regret it.
