We decided last night to make our theme a haunted asylum. I don't have any ideas on invitations.

Patient records of some sort?

What about having some sort of summons, like saying that the invitees are being committed on your party date and time. Can't think of particular wording but will try to think of somehing while at work today but hopefully this can get someones creativity juices flowing

Each invite could have a diagnosis on it saying that your guest has that mental illness. Some of the old terminology for diagnoses was interesting and sometimes comical, you could do that. You could write that they need to be at their first group therapy appointment at your asylum and such and such a day.

Something like those postcard reminders the dentist sends to you to remind you of your appt....
only on one side maybe have a photo of some long abandoned asylum...
(I think someone posted some pix of old abandoned morgues...very creepy...it was like they put down their tools & walked away.)
The other side could have their scheduled appt. info.

You'd be crazy not to show up!

You might want to look up a list of archaic diagnoses like "hysteria" or "electroshock treatment" that way you don't accidentally offend someone...

Excellent idea, Xane. Mental illness should not be made fun of---but the idea of the old thankfully archaic methods and facilities should be fair game in a haunt. Much like a vacant and spooky morgue. IMHO
