I think this year at our Halloween party we may show a movie off of a projector. What is your opinion on the scariest black and white movie? The first one that comes to my mind is "Night of the Living Dead." Suggestions please...

Since its going on at a party I would suggest something with a bit of whimsy to it where you wouldn't have to sit and watch the whole thing in order to get it. Something with huge plot holes where it may not matter if you miss 10 minutes or so. "Plan 9 From Outer Space" (1959)

Other suggestions are in no particular order but may require you pay more attention:

    1. The Thing (1951)
    2. Little Shop Of Horrors (1960)
    3. Frankenstein (1931)
    4. Dracula (1931)
    5. The Wolfman (1941)
    6. King Kong (1933)

    Hope this helps, Marc V.

By all means, use some classsic Price! Some of his best B&W films would be awesome on a projector... a few that I like (and watch/show) are The Last Man On Earth, House Of Wax and House On Haunted Hill, these work really well for mixed groups of people too!

I agree with the old black and white standards... they've really got the imagery that screams Halloween. Especially Dracula! If you can get your hands on Nosferatu, that'd be nice and creepy as well.

White Zombie (1932) is also a classic!

The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920, silent) has some wonderful imagery. And I also recommend the B&W classics mentioned by the other posters.

    My personal recommendation???

I'd go with "Night of the Living Dead"

Night of the Living Dead, done it and worked perfectly. Also on The Ring, but not the same effect

Nosferatu. So creepy and beautifully done. Definitely don't have to be completely focused to follow and it has subtitles.
