I'm having a True Blood inspired Halloween party and I need lots of red string and rope lights. Does anyone have any good sources for this type of thing? Also has anyone ever used glass paint on lightbulbs? I have some of those candle looking lights and, of course, they dont make red bulbs...

Hobby Lobby has tons of Christmas stuff out including lights, if you have one by you.

Yea, you can paint bulbs... we got red glass paint from hobby lobby last year. Last year was essentially two halloweens, and on both nights I noticed a little smoke coming off of the painted bulbs towards the end of the night. I just kept an eye on them and they were fine. I picked up some red rope lights after 4th of july at walmart... they still have some. I found some old style (you know, like the "peanuts"?) red christmas lights at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago.

Last year in my area, Lowe's put out their Christmas stuff a good while before Halloween & they had all their string lights out (green only, red only, etc) and they were about $2 each....

Lowes is usually fully set for Christmas the last week in September or first week in October. I am sure the other major stores are set the same time. Check the light bulb aisle if you have a Lowes. They have red (blue, orange and green) light bulbs, those twisty light bulbs, skinny base candleabra bulbs and spot lights (but that may be pink).
