As I have posted in the Forum I almost didn't do anything for Halloween this year as I am in a deep funk about my son's upcoming surgery. But at his insistance we are at least having a party this year and I decided on Edgar Allan Poe/Victorian theme party. I need help. I am evidently still in a brain fog and having the hardest time trying to think how to decorate the bottom of the house: kitchen, living room, dining room, hallway, utility room, small bathroon. Does anyone have suggestions? I swear cannot believe I am having this much trouble this year!!

easy to do - some creepy cloth, sliver candles/ holders, some of those fake ravens from dollar tree, cobwebs/ spiders!

i think dollar tree also has the raven cut outs this year for windows and doorframes and such.

    DITTO!

I'm sorry to hear of your son's upcoming surgery and am sending good thoughts your way. I too have had one of the roughest years of my life, and didn't have a party or one stitch of Halloween last year.

I'm trying so hard to get back in the mood, because Halloween is something that has always made me happy, but I just can't seem to get out of this fog. Motivation isn't the problem, it's just coming up with ideas which normally come natural to me.

Sounds like you and I have a similar theme this year, so if I come up with something good I'll make sure to share. For now, I guess I don't really have any ideas to offer, just wanted you to know you're not alone!

E.A. P. = Crows! (Quoth the Raven--Nevermore!) They are available everywhere especially craft stores. Perch them everywhere. I have a picture window in my house. I made a basic silhouette of a raven and cut out a ton of them. I lined them up in the window frames. At night, with a light behind them they look really creepy from outside and in. Also, candelabras and candle sticks on top of of stacks of really old books (available at yard sales) look great, especially if you can find a vintage looking magnifying glass to set next to it. I once trash picked a mannequin and for my haunted library party, I dressed her up in a black dress with a cameo pin at the neck, whitened her face and fashioned her hair into a bun -viola- Emily Dickinson. I got a dusty old stuffed pheasant from a yard sale for $5. Ubercreepy! Dirty-lookiing gray doilies on the furniture. Many times I find odd little "objets d'art" at yard sales and spray paint them black. It makes everything look old and creepy.

Peewee - I'm sorry to hear about your son's surgery. I totally get the funk thing...I haven't done one thing yet and I'm having a terrible time getting the energy/motivation to do it. My husband got laid off, so it's been a lousy few months.

Here's some links I found that I hope will help....plus I would search Marthastewart.com since she always has a lot of great Victorian ideas. I love the site Hostess with the Mostess:

There were lots more ideas there. I'll look around some more. We can help each other get our mojo back!! :-D
