I am sooo excited about my vampire party this year! Vampires have been my favorite since I was like 8 years old (and started watching Buffy… tee hee)! I want it to be very… Dracula’s castle meets gothic elegance meets movie/tv show references. Is anyone else doing a vampire theme for 2011? Post your progress/ideas/past pictures here!!

    WHAT I HAVE SO FAR:

A graveyard of course! I would love to have a Vampire groundbreaker but come to think of it… I think I’ve only seen zombie/skeleton ones?

To the left of the door I want to do a big spider display (did a spider theme a couple of years ago so I have LOTS of them).

To the right of the door I was thinking about putting lots of people/skeletons/whatever impaled on stakes in the ground as a Vlad the Impaler reference (not that it really matters but do you think people will get that?)

In the first living room I want everything very candlelit… using the flickering LEDs and I’m finally going to get that candelabra from Spirit that I’ve been wanting for so long. I’m going to put lots of crows/ravens places with black fabric and such. I’ve got a big blank wall behind the TV that I’m going to use this
http://images.buycostumes.com/mgen/m...600,1600,1,0,0 scenesetter on with some gore traits and this http://www.partycity.com/product/vam...&navSet=170552 . I would love to do a coffin as coffee table but I don’t know if I will be able to make one or not. Sort of a nod to Interview With a Vampire… I think anyway.

In the kitchen I’ve got some great black and silver spider fabric for a table cloth and to cover other things with. I bought the ‘Dracula’s Pub’ sign today Big Lots to hang where all the booze will be kept. I think I’m going to do dead roses and some fake candles on the table with the food. My Edwardian butler will be there to hold out jello shots for guests. I’m going to put this http://www.partycity.com/product/got...&navSet=170552 on the wall behind the table with some of the hanging torch fake fire things between the kitchen and first living room.

In the second living room I’m going to hang white sheets to cover all the walls and put blood splatters and drips and spatters everywhere and have it completely blacklit. I want to do kind of a vampire club feel maybe with some hanging props from chained up like there being tortured or blood orgied on or whatever… kind a Blade reference.

In bathroom # 1 I’m going to do fake candles, skulls, ravens, black fabric, with my swinging bat hanging on the shower rod… kind of pretty things as our definition goes.

In bathroom # 2 I’m going to make it a complete blood bath with any extra body parts I have left and lots of the mirror cling blood splatters… sort of like it’s the vampire’s storage freezer or something… lol… I’ll leave the window open and maybe it’ll get really cold… lol. Probably a red light in their.

In the hallway I’m going to do pics or famous vampires.

Oh and if guests don’t wear a costume… you have to wear glitter and be a Twilight vampire… lol.

Instead of Gangrene for Tempt Your Fate… I’m going to do Bad Blood… I was thinking about just mixing vodka with strawberry syrup to take it a little easier on my guests this year… last year’s shot was so disgusting, they still talk about it.

I might possibly have access to the lunging vampire from spirit and another chick hanging vampire that will be somewhere around the house.

    WHAT I NEED:

Do you think I should switch the scene setters between the kitichen and the living room?

I was going to do a scarecrow and jack-o-lantern display in one half of the front yard… does anyone have any links to CREEPY scarecrows I could use as inspiration or buy for under $30? Also what is the most cost/time efficient way to get a lot of Jack-o- Lanterns? I wanted to carve the fake, re-usable pumpkins this year but the cheapest ones were $10! I wanted to do like 10 but I can’t if they’re that expensive!? Will Wal-mart or Target have them cheaper?

Lots of my friends are true blood fans… so I wanted to do a reference for that but I don’t watch it so any ideas?

What am I missing that should be at all vampire parties?

Any more suggestions are very welcome!!

I bought several cheap pumpkin head masks last year that were pretty good. I used them outside on bamboo poles. I just filled a balloon and placed inside the mask. I took a clothes hanger and buffed it out with paper and duct tape and dressed it in overalls and plaid shirts and then attached the heads. They were pretty good and CHEAP. I know that I got one mask at Dollar General and one at Family Dollar store.

You can also do a scene where a Vampire Hunter got lucky and killed a vampire. I incorporated a scene like that in one of our parties a few years ago:

Party lighting, but the fangs show up better.

I don't have pics unfortunately, but here are 2 things that have worked well for my vamp themes in the past.

    1. Get a number of old mirrors and gently scrape off some of the back "mirror" coating, just enough to make it see-through without losing the mirror look all together. Then, print off some old pics from the internet of people or vampires and tape them to the back of the mirror. Put them up around the house and it looks like there are "ghosts" in the mirrors.

    2. Visit your local thrift store and get some fun but ugly metal stuff - chairs, chandeliers, candlesticks... anything you can find and can imagine into your decor. Then, spray paint it all black and put it around your house for a very "classy" gothic feel - perfect for a vampire mansion! (The coolest I saw was an old victorian chair made black and then refinished with black material on the seat - the whole project cost about $10)

    Hope these two things help!

Sounds pretty easy! Thanks! I always forget about the dollar stores!

Omg! The mirror thing sounds great!! I had no idea that would work.

I'll have to see if I run accross any usable furniture... the thrift stores right in my area are sort of disgusting. I might need to look in a richer neighborhood or something.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the suggestion Wolfbeard!

You have actually given me an idea for what to do with my office... I think I'm going to make it kind of a Vampire Hunter's office with crosses, garlic and a dead vampire maybe if I can find a cheap enough skeleton! Maybe a dart board with Dracula's pic like he's been throwing darts at it... or a suspect board with pics of famous vamps...

Oh and I love the candles in the fire place! I might do that as well!

I love your ideas! Sounds like it's going to be fantastic!! Especially your idea of having anyone who shows up with out a costume having to be a twilight vamp. (Although...I admit...I do love the book series )

Can't wait to see pictures of your set up! You should post em as you go along.....just a thought

Oh I love Twilight and I have a mixture of lovers and haters at the party so it should be all in good fun... plus its usually guys that come without a costume and making them wear glitter will be humorous.
