We've only got a small home so can only comfortably invite 15-20 people, but know that some aren't going to be able to come for some reason or another. We're happy to have friends friends come along, but ask invitees to just let us know for catering purposes.
I always like to be able to move around the party comfortably, have enough room to chat abit privately without feeling alone and not have so many people that I don't get to talk to all guests. But that's just my view- each host has there own way.

Rosella, it's the same for us. Our house is very tiny so we try to keep the amount of guests a bit lower. We had about 25 people the first year we had a party...a bit much for the inside of the house...but the weather was great that year so everyone tended to hang out in the back yard. If we could guarentee that the weather would hold out...we could invite more, but if it rains it'd be hard to pile more then 25 in the house.

I find that almost everyone that we've invited ends up showing up. Last year we had a few people cancel at the last minute (damn Phillies game!!) but everyone else that said they would be there, was.

Last year was the first year we had a party at our house. Fear of it being a small space was the main reason I never even tried to have one but i figured what the heck, i used the garage and backyard along with the living room and kitchen and it turned out pretty well. I invited around 80 and I think around 35-40 showed up. And yes some of the guest brought a couple but I didn't mind at all. I can't wait until this years party! Good Luck and no worries!

Last year, we sent out 75 invitations and had 40 attend, which is about typical for our yearly parties. I don't mind if invitees bring guests, but it bothers me when people don't RSVP. Grrrrr.

It depends on so many things. I think normal is about 50% turn out of who you invited. Our numbers keep growing every year though with people inviting friends and people who didn't go having to hear about last year from other people.

Year 1: 15 people (last minute party)--40 people invited
    Year 2: 35 people --100 invited
Year 3: 50 people (ran out of drinks!!!)--100 invited

This year we are thinking that our guest list will look 60-70 people. I did however have a falling out with a group of friends this year so I'm thinking 60.
ALSO, in my experience don't think you'll be getting more people than RSVPd. Yeah some people won't RSVP but then again some people who said they were coming, wont show so they tend to cancel each other out.

I usually have a really small party because I don't have a lot of space (especially for sitting, we watch horror movies and there's never enough seats.) I also don't like a lot of people because if there are too many people, I find myself running around doing maintenance instead of having fun...
I invite a few friends, maybe 8-10 people and I tell them they can invite some friends too if they want. I generally get about 15-20 people that way.

We usually invite a total of 40 people. That includes the kids. Usually 25 - 30 show.

I agree with star_girl_mag on everything she said. It really depends. We tend to invite more people every year, but it seems to be around 50-75 percent attendance each year. As a note, our parties are for adults only - no kiddos allowed!! =)

    2007: Invited 14, 7 attended
    2008: Invited 21, 16 attended
    2009: Invited 23, 13 attended
    2010: Invited 30, 26 attended
This year, we will be inviting about 45 people, but I expect only 25-30 to show up.

I would like to say that I think you would be surprised how many people can fit fairly comfortably in your house - I know I was! My living room is 10' x 17' but is lined with furniture all around, my kitchen is tiny and only really allows for a single path through it, then there is my card-making room that is probably 9' square. Last year, we were able to use our screen porch that is about 10' x 24' and that really helped a ton! People are usually up and about mingling or snacking on food, but when we all needed to be in one room (like for the costume contest voting), some people chose to sit on the floor, some on chairs, etc. It always kind of works itself out - no worries! =)

thanks everyone! My parties have also grown! this will be my third year. I'm such a worry wart though lol I will be invited possibly 35 to 45 and i'm sure a few will invite their friends. And you are right about they cancel each other out! We have a smaller house but noone is really around us except new nieghbors but there is a loot in between us. So they better not throw a fit!! The house is open along w front yard and drive way. W have a car port so I usually put a black material around the outside decorate the inside of it to give us more privacy. I would love to open the back yard up but usually the dogs start out there just so I dont have to worry about guest not closing the screen behind em. But who knows maybe i will see!
