Hi all,
I just found the site and think it is a wonderful idea. Recently, I inherited the duties of putting together a District Cub Scout Day Camp in Japan for kids in the Far East Council. Due to my schedule; I had to push the event to the end (29th) of October where there is a concern by others that we may be competing with Halloween. Instead of competing; I want to make it the best Halloween ever seen here by using it as the theme for the camp. If people love Halloween as much as I do I think we could actually see over 1000 people, making it by far the largest Cub Scouting event ever in Japan. (And a logistical nightmare!)
We will be doing our "Spook-a-ree" at Ikego, a US military family housing area with a large secluded camping area. The boys are all in the 1st to 5th grades, but we will have a fair number of siblings. I am thinking about starting about 1 pm and going until 9pm.
So far I only have rough ideas for events and was hoping some of the resident experts on Spookiness here could help me out with both new ideas and fleshing out some of my ideas. I am thinking to set up stations with different themes like pirates, vampires, and ghosts running different events at each station.
We will do some kind of craft project; perhaps decorating our own masks. A sack race has been suggested as well as a treasure hunt. I want to do a haunted campsite; but other than giving them spaghetti worms to eat as they exit a tent tunnel; and hidden monsters in a small tarped maze; I am drawing a blank. After a hamburger/hotdog BBQ we will trick or treat at all of the activity stations and then have a campfire to close out the day. Being Cub Scouts, doing a costume contest would be problematic as they should be in at least class B uniform (Scouting themed T-shirt).
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Konnichiwa Skelster,
Two ideas for a project would be to have a Halloween T-Shirt Design Contest. The kids make a design, everyone votes & the winner gets it made into the ( Scout thened T-shirt )or have a professional disigner create a Black & White ( Scout & Halloween Designed Logo ) print it on a White or Ash shirt & have the kids use Fabric Markers to color their own shirts as a project. I'll think of some more but I wanted to send this one off first. Good Luck.

I'm back. How about having the kids build a few Stalk Abouts based off of one of the many Ghosts or Creatures from the rich story telling history of Japan & use them in the Haunt.

Why don't you make the "craft" a mask making one - then there could be a prize for best mask.

Maybe they could still use their t shirts but have a contest on who could make the most creative costume using only things they can wear on their heads or arms or attached to the t shirts? Like a pirate patch, clown nose small cereal boxes for a "cereal killer" etc?
And you must have scary stories around the campfire with smores! yummmm, smores
