Thread: Help with Theme, Atomic Age Gone Wrong

So we want to do a theme this year. I was thinking of something like “Atomic Age Gone Wrong”. This is kind of hard to put into words what I am thinking. My girlfriend and I would be the “perfect married couple” from the 50’s but slightly altered from the radiation. Dress the part but do make up to make us not look right. Try to keep the 50’s atomic era theme somewhat. Our house would be the safe house or shelter from the nuclear people (thinking something like zombie type people roaming around). But when guest get to our party the safe house has been overrun but we are trying to keep the party going. Have dented mystery cans of food around, turned over items (furniture etc…) Flickering lights, covered windows and so on.
I am trying to reuse some of my decorations from last year which are the typical stuff from spirt, tortured heads, some skulls, zombie stuff etc…

What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Any ideas to add to this or is this a bad theme and I should start over with something else. Any ideas are appreciated.


Our other idea is to keep the 50's couple thing but instead of zombies and atomic age stuff, have it where we are murders and have body parts and torture areas around the house. This would be simpler and easier to pull off for us.

Some of y'all are so creative!! Love the idea. I say watch the movie Blast from the Past. It's funny and it has a shelter that may inspire you. I saw it years ago, so I don't remember everything exactly.

That really sounds like an awesome idea. It's different from the average Halloween stuff, yet still has enough spook factor. I would suggest whatever food you put out for guests to be covered in some sort of green 'film' or something. Where most of us have to come up with Halloween type appetizers, you can simply serve just about anything, but have it all covered in something to represent nuclear decay. The outside of your house is equally important. I can imagine dead bodies/skeletons/zombies all over your front yard. Like everyone was flocking to your house (the safe haven) but didn't quite make it in time. Have a dead body or skeleton right on the front steps or at the door (not sure how your house is) with its hand stretched out towards the door, like the unfortunate soul died the second he/she was going to make it 'home'. Even have a Fallout Shelter sign on your house. Maybe you get one of those red and blue police lights and have it set up in your side or backyard. And maybe have a recording of an emergency siren going.
