I just bought a complete Mattel Creepy Crawlers set from 1966, with all the original molds and a working and non-working oven. Total cost as about $30 including shipping. I bought them thinking it might be cool to bring them to our Halloween luncheon at work, since most of my co-workers grew up back then as well, and we could make up some of our old favorites from when we were kids. That odd smell of heated plastic is something you just never forget.
I was also thinking of adding a Creepy Crawlers station in our garage haunt. We are going to have tables for refreshments for the parents while the kids are getting their candy, but maybe a chance for the kids to make a genuine Creepy Crawler would be cool too.

That is a great idea! With the advent of technology, kids' toys tend to be more computerized and these fun nostalgic toys tend to be left in the dark.

Oh wow!!! That's awesome. I admit to ignorance of these, and had to look up what a Creepy Crawler was. What a great addition to a haunt for the ToT's. We are always looking for fun things instead of candy.

My brothers and I had a Creepy Crawlers Set. I wish I still had it, but four boys in the family sure puts a beating on toys.
Eventhough I am Dead it is always warm inside my bed.

Can you still get lots of the plastic?

Amazingly the plastic goop is still being made and you can buy it at Toys-r-Us, Amazon, and a bunch of different sites. There are also some recipes for making your own. The set that I bought on ebay had all the original 1966 molds plus the monster maker set, which is really cool because it lets you make little skeletons.
It's pretty funny to think that someone once thought it was a good idea to entrust kids age 7 and up with what's essentially a hot plate.
Those were the days. My kids are all in their 20's and they've all been having fun making the same bugs and lizards I made when I was 7.

I had one when I was growing up in the '90s. That thing was too cool.
If you have the kid's attention long enough, I think this is a great idea.
