HI!! Our theme this year is Murder in the Deep South. I need some ideas for decor.
I am not in the south so I have to purchase some spanish moss and a few palms. Any more ideas??
I am think of voodoo, poisoning, someone shot for some murder scenes. any help in that area would be great!

For my invites, it would be a picture of a plantation with some "bloody" moss attached to it.

    Thanks!!

Ha, well my first thought was Texas Chainsaw Massacre but i see you mean that kind of south! There are lots of threads of Romps in the Swamp on here, they have fantastic ideas. You could dress up some skellies like the old time Southern Belle ladies with their frilly umbrellas and such. Swamps, potions, alligators etc....

I'm in kentucky so were kinda southern, i would do snakes, alligators, voodoo, and as bad as i hate to say a confederate flag. i dont agree with the politics behind it but it doesnt get more southern than that. and for refreshments super sweet iced tea. hope that helps. its a really cool and unique theme idea

Hey, I love the idea! Nothing says southern to me like Jack Daniels and Southern Comfort! I don't know if it's that kind of party, but atleast you could decorate with whiskey bottles. I've even extracted highlighter fluid out of highlighters and diluted with water and filled old whiskey bottles and various other shaped bottles and illuminated them with black lights. You just take a hack saw and saw off the end of the highlighter. There is a sponge inside that has all the fluid. I squeezed the sponge in water and then let it soak in the water about an hour. The less water, the more potent the glow will be, but if you don't have enough water, the glow will be hampered. You could make your own labels for the bottles as well... you could have an entire "bar" scene with these!!! Just an idea....

Rent a copy of the James Bond Movie, "Live and Let Die." There are some great voo doo scenes with the awesome Jeffrey Holder. THat might give you some inspiration. You may even find some scenes from it on youtube.

anything "redneck" I'm southern and definitely not a redneck but for some reson they seem to be an icon of the south. maybe redneck zombies or skeletons.

    sweet tea and peaches
    gumbo
    mashed taters and collard greens
    cornbread and beans
    fried chicken

    confederate cemetery
    confederate ghosts/ghouls/ zombies
    dead southern belles

    "southern hospitality" twisted

Savannah, GA and Louisiana are good for Halloween ideas

there is a plethura of ideas just look up the southern culture and "haunt" it...thoug we do have treasure troves of ghosts down here
"We accommodate the living, but who shall accommodate the dead?"

"We say haunted, but we mean the house has gone insane."

We had redneck farmers going to an old school style carnival scene in the spare room. My cousin who is 12 refused to go in she was creeped out even at a distance. Ringling had their start here by me in FL. I can attest there are still some creepy circus/carnies out here as I used to work for Ringling lol. When I worked with them we would pick up people for a few cities, drifters ya know? And some were just the creepiest people.

Dont forget okra for food! Also corn bread, bbq ribs, corn on the cob and watermelon. Kool aid, the "red" flavor, lol. (cherry). But down here its "red", haha! '

Definitely alligators, snakes, and Huuuuuuge bugs! Mostly skeeters. racoons, armadillos and opossums.
