So next year (2011) will be the first year that I'm thinking about serving alcohol at my party...I've been of age, but a few of my friends are not, and I just didn't want to be responsible for that. However, this year I've decided to extend an invite only to those 21 and older. But I'm having trouble trying to decide how much money to allot to alcohol in my budget. My "goal" number of guests is 15-20, probably be more towards 15. And I'm wanting to make several kinds of jell-o shots, as well as have drinks. I'm not wanting to go all out, like having a full bar...just beer, wine, and maybe some certain drinks to make a few mixed drinks with. Sooooo (after my looong background info), if you all don't mind me asking, how much do you allot yourselves for alcohol? I've read mixed reviews about BYOB...I'm still on the fence about that. Any suggestions?
Thanks!![]()

doom buggy I think that is great of you to think of your under age friends. Everyone that came to our party had a designated driver since we always have a full bar. We spent around $200 on alcohol. Unlike food leftovers alcohol leftovers are even better they do not go bad lol. The Holidays are right around the cornor and we don't have to stock up for awhile. We had about 35 people.

chop shop this is quite true and a good point. doom buggy my parties are more geared to an over 50 crowd. My son also just turned 21 and dosen't drink. Some of his friends were at the party and they are all over 21 and were allowed to drink only if they slept over. Drinking to oblivion is no fun at all for the person drinking and to those who are around that person.

We had about 20 people at our party this year and spent $100 on spirits and $70 on 2 cases of beer, but still have half bottles of all the spirits and had a case left over.
I told people that I'd have some alcohol but that if they wanted something specific to bring it themselves and nobody seemed to mind. I also found it budget friendly that if your going to do shots, look for recipes that use similar spirits or liqueurs that you can mix or match or already have; for example, I had a few vodka based drinks because it goes with a lot of things. Blue Curacao, raspberry liqueur also work well and taste yummy!
