I guess technically this is neither paranormal nor unexplained...but it's still creepy.
Centralia is a borough and ghost town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. Its population has dwindled from over 1,000 residents in 1981 to 12 in 2005, 9 in 2007, and 7 in 2010 as a result of a mine fire burning beneath the borough since 1962.
This is the town Silent Hill was based on. There is an actual mine fire beneath the town which has been burning since the 60s. It's a pretty creepy looking place:
Here are some links about the town:

What do you guys think? Would you carry on living there?

Yep, ole Centrailia
This is what happens when you burn trash in a pit, on top of an exposed coal vein.
Was a really nice town before the fires.http://www.halloweenforum.com/member...bums-2011.html

This isn't too far from me. A few weeks ago there was a story on the news about a few hold outs. They feel like they weren't being offered enough money by the government for their homes and continue to live there and refuse to sell. I've never heard of the silent hill inspiration. I'm going to have to look into it.

Ooo, I'd like to live there. I'm guessing some of the residents are a bit older so I'd create some type of ghost story and an alter-ego and scare them away Scooby-Doo style.

That was really interesting. I wonder how dangerous it actually is to live there....

I've been there in Sept 2005.... didn't go too far into the town or do much adventuring because of all the signs about trespassing-- for good reason too, lots of CO2 emissions-- and Centralia is kinda out of the way... and my traveling companions were disappointed there wasn't a big crater in the earth with flames lapping up over the edges with denizens of the earth pouring forth.
Had my pic taken on a park bench.
