A man walking down the street carrying a guitar began introducing himself to me, saying he once lived in my house 40 yrs. ago. I asked if anything supernatural ever happened then?
"You betcha! You have a real piece of history there!" (Active history, maybe he meant?)
"Shadows walking passed, kitchen cupboards opening and closing by themselves, all sorts of things!
Then he sort of disqualified everything by confessing:"We always had booze partys there, smoked dope, dropped some acid.."
Many others have told me their stories about my house and they were not taking alcohol or drugs.
I kind of write such stories as his "Off".

I lived in an old farmhouse with tons of happenings as a child. It was an odd house built on the side of a hill and the kitchen and my big brothers bedroom sat on the ground. I was seven years old when my family moved in and they were the type that didn't mention spirits or happenings, so I didn't even know about these type of things.
From the moment we moved in the house always gave me the feeling of being watched and just scared. My mom worked nights, my dad worked 12 hour shifts and was fast asleep by 8 p.m., and my big brother was a teenager and spent most of his time with his friends. I spent most of my nights petrified to go asleep. I started having very vivid nightmares and I tried everything to stay awake. My parents bedroom had wood floors and you could hear someone walking around there at night in high heels. I would sleep on the couch in the living room and on several occasions I would see a white figure coming out of my parents room. My brothers bedroom would lock( when there wasn't anyone in there) and he'd have to pry the door open to get into. Several of my relatives would say the house freaked them out and none of them would ever spend the night. There were several of the usual scary things, tv and lights turning on and off. I remember right before Christmas we were visting my grandma and the neighbor called to say we shouldn't have left our outside Christmas lights plugged in because it was a fire hazard. The only problem was we hadn't plugged the Chritmas lights in. Christmas Eve that year we came home from visiting family (the living room had the old fashioned drop ceiling panels) everyone of the panels were in the floor. They were prefectly fine and the metal bars that held the panels up were still there. When my parents finished our new house a couple years later I was so happy to be out of there. The problem was the new house was at the bottom of the hill and my bedroom window was facing that creepy place and I always felt like someone was watching me. The barn was also creepy I always felt llike there was something watching me soand metimes I would catch what looked like someting hanging from the rafters out of the corner of my eye.
When I was a little older I realized the farm had originally been owned by our next door neighbors family and I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't want to keep it in the family. One day I got brave and asked them if anything spooky ever happened there. They told me the original owner had been away at war and came home to find his wife with another man. He supposedly killed her and buried, then built the kitchen on top of the body. He claimed she was gone when he got home, but she liked to wear high heels and I think she's still there. I also found out the people that bought the farm before we owned it were really bad drug addicts and the husband was really depressed and hanged himself in the barn. I was definitrly not sad when my dad got a job transfer and we moved out of state.\

The house I grew up in had a ghost my parents named "Herkimer" (no idea why) - and he was not so much a scary ghost, but more of an ornery one. We would wake up in the mornings and all of the kitchen cabinets would be wide open. I remember one night my mom and dad were downstairs watching TV and I was in bed asleep when all of a sudden I heard this huge crash and banging coming from the kitchen down the hall from my room. When I walked into the kitchen to see what was going on ALL of the kitchen cabinets were wide open, the lights were on and all of mom's pots and pans and other miscellaneous cooking supplies were spilled out onto the floor and counters.

Mom ran up the stairs behind me and ushered me back into my room saying "Herkimer" was acting up again! I have no memory of being scared - just curious.

Mom told me in later years that when she and my dad first moved in she always kept her laundry supplies grouped together in a little basket by the laundry machine and that Herkimer would take the detergent out and set it somewhere else, then mom would move it back to the basket and Herkimer would move it again... this went on for a while before mom gave up and just left it where Herkimer wanted it.

All of this stopped around the time my parent's marriage went south and got involved in some ugly divorce litigation.

As a child I grew up in an old two story house that had been remodeled into a duplex. My father rented out the upstairs apartment. We always heard footsteps going up the back stairway. We always thought it was just the renters upstairs.
Many years later, I moved into the same upstairs apartment with my wife and young son. We started hearing footsteps coming up the back stairway. We heard them alot. At least once or twice a week. When we checked to see who was there, there was no one there. Sometimes water would turn on by itself in the bathroom.
One night my wife and I closed our bedroom door and just laid down, when all of a sudden a loud bang sounded from the bedroom door like something had been thrown at it from the other side.
We turned on the lights and opened the door to find a 12"x 12" wall clock on the floor next to the door. It had traveled 15 ft across the living room and slammed into the center of the door.
A neighbor lady told us once that before my father had bought the house, a little girl who lived there had burned to death in a fire in the backyard.
Was the little girls' ghost trying to tell us to leave?
