Ok. As a back story, my girlfriend lives in a two family/two level house which was built around the turn of the century. She and her brother live below, her Grandmother lived above. Her grandmother, for being a small old lady, walked like she had cinder blocks as shoes and she was a night owl.

My Girl and me would be laying in bed and you'd hear, "Boom Boom Boom" and that was Grandma walking around her living room. It was often followed by the TV clicking on at BLARING volume because she was deaf also.

God rest her, the Grandmother passed away about a year and a half ago. So one night, a couple months ago, we are both laying in bed just about to fall asleep when we here a BOOM. Not a very loud boom, but a distinct boom. My girlfriends cat and dog both come into the bedroom and hope into bed with us. Then there is another boom followed by two more.

Now it was weird, but my girlfriend (who believes in a lot of this stuff) is getting worried. "Did you hear that?!" "What was that?" yada yada. So I am laying there and to calm her I try to think of what it could have been.

I go, "Well it was hot today, and the sun was beating on the house for hours and the heat made everything expand. Now that its night and cool the old boards are probably contracting and causing a bit of a creek."

Now, I don't know if I nessesarrily believe that but-- you know, I am with the girl, I can't tell her that it is freaking me out too.

Then there was another couple booms almost exactly as I said that. Instead of it being a sign I used it to prove my point, "See." I said, "The house is just settling, it will stop in a minute."

Anyway, my girlfriend calms down and after a few minutes she falls asleep. So I am laying there and her window curtine, a thin light material, starts to blow and expand as if the window was open and a breeze was coming in .. but the window was closed.

At that point I was like, "Man, **** all this.." and pulled the blanket over me and went to sleep.

Was it Grandma's ghost? I don't know, but whatever it was I didn't want to see it and forced myself to sleep as quick as possible.

Gosh, that's pretty freaky D: is anyone living upstairs now? Don't be ashamed if the family is just using it for storage now, I wouldn't sleep up there either

Actually, as I said the house is well over 100 years old and is starting to show its age so the Top level is unoccupied now and my Girlfriend is looking for a new place to live .. once she settles on something the family is going to put the house up for sale either as a house or a land to build on, the proporty is in a nice section of north jersey near NYC so someone will scoop it up ghost or not lol.

Actually, she had told me a while ago that her and her mother were cleaning the attic when they saw an apparition of my girls Great Grandmother (and mothers grandma) They two of them were pretty spooked out about it.

Personally, if it was me .. I wouldn't mind seeing my Granny Gran again, I mean if the ghost is family what do you have to worry about? right? Now being the Grand daughters boyfriend .. maybe I have a bit to worry about lol.

I'd personally try to scare my family even more than I would to strangers, were I a ghost.

    That's just me though ;D

Do you have any pictures of the house? If it's over a century old I'd love to see, I'm a huge nerd for really old buildings.

I am not sure if I have any picture of the house. I mean, to be honest it doesn't really look its age. Its in a pretty urban setting (as I said, its a stones throw from New York City) so it looks pretty much like any two family house you'd pass going down the street. It was built by her Great Grandfather in like 1905 or something like that.

Whats weird about the house is that it has "The Door of the DEAD" (dun dah dun!) which is a door that leads from the stair way/front door directly into the living room. It was only used for coffins when people used to have 'viewings' in at home instead of a funeral parlor.

Even though they didn't do that anymore they still wouldn't let anyone use the door. I can attest to that. Having to move a 48 inch projection TV into the Living room one day had me cursing that door and the stupid dead people who used it. Is she let me use that door to bring it through it would have saved not only about and hour but my BACK aswell!!!

My only experience came when I was twelve. My oldest sister had gone to UNT and during her freshman year, eloped with a senior there. She never told my parents, until she found out she was pregnant. Then she called my folks in Houston because they wanted to ask for a loan to help pay for the baby. My dad blew his top and as a result, for the next 10 days, I heard him come in from work and start screaming about it to my mom. I would just go to my room and cover my ears.

By the time we actually drove to Denton, he was in such a state he was barely even civil to my new brother-in-law. More screaming ensued and resulted in both my mother and sister crying. I was miserable, but I was twelve and couldn't go hide anywhere in their two room apartment.

That first night, my mom and dad were sleeping on the hide-a-bed in the living room and I was on a cot set up in the corner across the room from the front door. My sister had cried herself to sleep again and I laid there and listened to her through the wall. I fell asleep a little after eleven, but woke up at 3:00 on the dot. Wide awake, but creeped out. I knew something was different. As I looked around the room, I heard the screen door open and watched the lock disengage on the front door. It slowly opened and a young woman bathed in a white light came in. She walked over to the hide-a-bed where my parents were sleeping, and I saw her touch my father's cheek. Then she looked straight at me and proceeded to walk around the hide-a-bed to my cot. She just stood there next to me, smiling, and gradually all of my terror at seeing her evaporated. Then she sat down on my cot. I felt it go down. Her mouth never moved, but I heard her say not to worry. That things were going to be alright now. My father would accept the marriage and there wouldn't be anymore fighting. Then she kissed me on my forehead, got up and walked back out the front door. I actually felt the pressure of that kiss and the moistness she left there!

Anyway, in a few minutes I went back to sleep and woke up when I hear my mother and father moving around in the room. My dad went to the front door to get the paper, and he had to unlock the door, because it had be re-engaged. When my sister and brother-in-law came in, my dad acted like nothing else had happened. Everyone was relaxed and friendly and the rest of the visit was very pleasant, just like the lady had told me.

I saw the same lady when I was having some difficulties during the birth of my son, but she told me everything would be just fine, and it was. Whether she was a ghost or a guardian angel, I don't know, but it's nice to know that she's around.
