My boyfriend recently told me about "The Jersey Devil" he knows how I start researching about legends and the paranormal. Does anyone believe that The Jersey Devil exists?

Nope don't believe in it. From what I remember most of the "evidence" has been tracks in the snow. Anyone that has seen snow before can see how they distort from melting, drifts, new fall, etc;.
Those that have claimed to have seen it are exagerating in their startled reaction of suprise at encountering regular animals i.e. owls for instance.
There was a great test on Monster Hunters of people driving past various sized cut-outs of the "Moth Man". They described the 18 inch one as being MUCH larger than it was. The point being without a known visual reference in proximity of the object in the brief sighting is exaggerated in the mind.
A smaller nocturnal animal becomes a 4, 6, or 8 foot monster.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

NJ Devil –

I grew up in south Jersey and everyone knew of the NJ devil story. My small town library always had a copy of the book (original red book with the bat winged, horse headed, cloven feet monster picture on front). I'm very skeptical of any legend, I enjoy them but I highly doubt any of them are true. Given that so many yeti have yet to be found, the chance of finding one Jersey devil is rare! Probably a few sea monsters left, but not likely any land monsters.

The Jersey Devil is a pretty 'fantastic' story-- fantastic meaning its really out there, but what do you expect from one of this country's oldest Legend / Monsters.
I've been to the Pine Barrens of South Jersey (where the Devil lives) and they are Huge, Thick, and Remote .. what better place to hide a Monster ( or recently deceased FBI informant, capice?)
In my trips to South Jersey (I live in the North) I've met dozens of people who have 'seen' the devil and they are more than happy to tell their story about him, albeit with a wink and a nod.
Historical and Famous people have claimed to have seen him, they've written countless stories of alleged attacks and incidents in news papers, and over all the Devil's legend has lasted nearly 300 years.
The 13th Child of old lady Leeds is very real to us .. if only in our history and imagination. Neopleon Bonapart's Brother Jospeh, Fiorello LaGuardia, Mark Twain have all claimed to have seen him which I think holds a bit more water than a couple Drunk Roobs backpacking in Oregon looking for bigfoot.
Us Jerseyians love the Devil so much we named our Hockey Team after him.
I don't believe he is real by the way, but it is a cool story.

I always thought it was an interesting story ever since my boyfriend told me about it. I'm always reading about legends and true ghost stories. Is there any books about it?
