How about a thread of functioning hotels that are supposed to be haunted? Post the haunted hotels near you or that you've stayed at, along with any backstory that you know. I for one would love to be able to stay at as many haunted hotels as possible in my travels!
This past weekend we stayed at the Hotel Adolphus in Dallas TX. It's reputed to be haunted, especially on/around the 19th floor. It was built in 1912 by Adolphus Busch (yes, the beer dude). It originally had a ballroom on the 19th floor. The ballroom was closed long ago and the space converted into regular rooms, but supposedly one can sometimes hear music, laughter, footsteps on the now non-existent wooden dance floor... We experienced nothing, but we were only there for one night and we couldn't get a room on the 19th floor as it was booked up.
Anyway, there are a couple of other open haunted hotels in Texas that I know of: The Menger, near the Alamo in San Antonio, and The Driskill in Austin. Haven't stayed at either, but would like to!

The Whitten Inn Expo Center is Abilene Tx is supposed to be haunted. There are 3 connecting rooms that have activity. I lived in Abilene for 4 years, but never had a chance to go check it out. Now I live in Guam, no haunted hotels here...bummer.
As darkness falls, the path ahead becomes veiled in gloom. A jack-o-lantern shines through the night. It's horrible visage serves two fold. To keep wickedness at bay, and remind travelers their fate, if they wander off the path.

Estes Park Hotels | The Stanley Hotel - Colorado Resort, Luxury Colorado Resort
The hotel Steven King wrote about in The Shining - it's definitely haunted. They offer ghost tours.
There is another haunted hotel in the area too...

There is a hotel on the legendary Queen Mary, the historic ocean liner and World War II troopship. Guests stay in the hotel's 314 original staterooms. During her 60-year history, the Queen Mary was the site of 49 reported deaths, so there are plenty of potential spirits to haunt her hallways. Reported hauntings include a young crewman in the engine room, swimmers in the first-class pool, a man in black, and a woman in blue.
The Queen Mary is located in Long Beach California.

The UK has many haunted hotels and pubs. I have stayed at several that are reported to be haunted, but unfortunately have never experienced anything out of the ordinary..
The Kirkstone Inn In Cumbria, in England's Lake district is one of them.
Dating back to the 15th century, the inn has had plenty of time to pick up some ghosts and quite a few have been spotted in and around it. Some are believed to be the spirits of unlucky travellers who died while making a perilous journey through the difficult mountain terrain. One ghost is believed to be that of a woman who murdered her own child. Another, that of a 17th century coachman, was supposedly captured in a photograph taken by a family staying at the inn in 1993. But he’s not there any longer. He is said to have followed the tourists home and now lives with them as a member of the family!

Lemp Mansion. Is notorious in Saint Louis Missouri. Radio show here in Missouri called Dave Glover did shows there on Halloween great show to listen to. Anyway it was also featured on Ghost Hunters on sci-fi. I heard some scary stories about that place too. I haven't been there (Yet) myself but im looking forward to it when I do.
