Hey Grimey,
Just wanted to give you a little insight on what may have happened.
During sleep, a person undergoes 5 stages of the Sleep Cycle; Stages 1, 2, 3, 4, and REM.
Stages 1 through 4, your body may have some movement. You do not dream during these stages. During REM sleep, however, you do dream. During the REM stage of sleeping, the body is essentially paralyzed. You can not move your body during REM sleep. There isn't a definite reason for this, but many tend to believe that your body is paralyzed during this stage so that you do not hurt yourself during your dreams. IE, if you were running in your dream, you may hurt yourself if your body starts to shake, and your legs start to move as if you were running. People who wake up during the REM stage often do not have the ability to move their body for a period of time due to this paralysis. People have reported the feeling of being suffocated, having someone sitting on them or holding them down, etc.
Now, I'm not saying that you did experience this, and that your experience isn't paranormal. You could have experienced this sleep paralysis - or you could have experienced some sort of paranormal activity. I just wanted to offer an answer as to why this may have occurred.
Best of luck!
