Look at the size of that carving: It's huge.

And just think: No one would carve something that huge unless Bigfoot was, in some way, a real thing that people had seen. Very likely, the person who carved that saw one once and was suitably impressed. In my mind, based on that statue alone, Bigfoot's gotta be a real thing. Maybe.

But the Patterson film, that movie of the hairy thing walking away into the woods, is most likely fake, even though it's a neat piece of film and it would be nice if it was real.

The time I thought I saw bigfoot:

It was our first vacation after my older brother moved out. Yellowstone for 2 weeks. After the first week of driving to all the must see places, my younger brother and I decide we're going to spend the rest of the vacation on a hike.

We had brought most of the gear, and only had to buy foodstuffs. We pegged a nice leisurely 3 day hike that, in those 3 days, was supposed to pass within sight of 20 lakes. Figured we'ld stop and fish at a couple along the way.

By about mid-day of day 1, we had hit a snowline. The trail disappeared under the snow. This is before cell phones, so we had to decide: Retrace our steps, head through the snow, or head off trail and pick it back up later.

Now, we had detailed maps, and the trail was supposed to swing alongside this mountain, then down the ridge on the far side. Just happened to go along the 'darker' side of the mountain where snow hadn't melted yet. So, we figured if we stayed on the 'sunny' side we'ld meet up the trail on the other side.

We follow some game trails down the sunny side into a little wooded patch, but we could see the far side before we enterred, so weren't worried about getting lost. Found a little stream, good ground, plenty of wood, and made camp for the night. There were some unusual sounds, but nothing earth shattering. In the morning, we broke up camp, and headed out. We cleared the treeline and were on one side of a beautiful valley, with a small lake down in the center. My brother stops and hollers at me. He's pointing and asking 'What's that?'

There was this brown shape drinking from the lake. Looked hunched over, with 2 legs, and 2 arms. Unable to place it at this distance, and having not packed my telephoto camera or a pair of binoculars, we decided to hike down and try to get a better look. We lose sight of it behind some bushes for a minute, and next time we see it, we can only make out the 'head' as it had moved behind some taller grass. As we get closer, we see it turn and start away.

Now down on the lake's edge, we see what CLEARLY must be 2 arms swaying back and forth as it walks. It's just lumbering away, not in any hurry though. DIRECTLY away from us. Now a little scared, and excited to get a picture, we run around the edge of the lake and start up the side of the mountain towards it at an intercept angle. It hears us, and turns to look at us...

From the side, it was clearly a buffalo.

What had happened, was they shed a winter coat in the spring. That coat on this particular animal hung down off it's shoulders in big, THICK strands of wool. From directly in front, or directly behind, they looked like arms. And, they swayed as it walked around.

But, I was a believer there for a few hours that day.

I posted this story when I joined a couple of years ago:

Bigfoot resides at Salt Fork State Park near where I grew up in Cambridge, Ohio. There was recently a Monsterquest episode about it that referred to it as Grassman (a name from NE Ohio). My brother was friends with a park ranger at Salt Fork who was sitting in his truck on a dirt road filling out some paperwork, back in the mid-1970's. He felt the truck moving and then the rear end of the truck lifting off of the ground. When he looked in his rearview mirror he saw a large hairy creature. Needless to say he was frightened and hit his accelerator, but the truck didn't go anywhere. Finally the creature dropped the truck and, since the ranger was still giving it gas, he spun out and took off. The next day he and other rangers returned to the site where they found the tire tracks but nothing else.

Glad I didn't hear this when I was young! I come from Akron, don't remember how far from Cambridge but not too far as I was there at least a couple of times with my grandparents. Had I known there was supposed to be Bigfoot there there's no way I'd have gone. I likes Bigfoot but I don't need to see a really real for real one.

Yeti hairs “not from any known species”……

"We fully expected them to come from a known animal," said Mr Redmond. "We failed to find that. So the mystery remains and we go on to the next stage of investigation."The hairs will now be examined under an even more powerful microscope and sent to two different laboratories - in Oxford and Cardiff - for DNA testing. Follicles containing cells remain on the base of the hairs, said Mr Redmond, "so there is every chance that we will be able to get even closer to the truth".

Two bigfoot hunters claim they have the corpse of a Bigfoot, and will release a picture and DNA evidence at a news conference on Friday.

Here are some of the vital stats on the "Bigfoot"body:

*The creature is seven feet seven inches tall.
*It weighs over five hundred pounds.
*The creature looks like it is part human and part ape-like.
*It is male.
*It has reddish hair and blackish-grey eyes.
*It has two arms and two legs, and five fingers on each hand and
five toes on each foot.
*The feet are flat and similar to human feet.
*Its footprint is sixteen and three-quarters inches long and five and three-quarters inches wide at the heel.
*From the palm of the hand to the tip of the middle finger, its hands are
eleven and three-quarters inches long and six and one-quarter inches wide.
*The creatures walk upright. (Several of them were sighted on the same day that the body was found.)
*The teeth are more human-like than ape-like.
*DNA tests are currently being done and the current DNA and photo evidence will be presented at the press conference on Friday, August 15th.

Has Bigfoot Been Found?
