Has anyone else ever done this? I was listening to the CBC this was back in the early 70s, and they were interviewing this guy about using a tape recorder in a graveyard to record the dead. We had recently moved into a new townhouse development, my parents were away so I thought why not give it a try. I put the cassete recorder in the basement and left it on for about an hour. When I rewound the tape and played it back there was nothing, that is until I turned the volume all the way up then you could clearly hear a voice say, "I'm cold". Scared the hell out me and I never did it againLOL.

It's called Electronic Voice Phenomenon, or EVP for short. It's a standard technique used by paranormal investigators.

The thing is, the human brain has a tendency to create patterns in nothing -- especially if you are focusing on 'nothing' for long enough. Whether you are listening to static or looking down a pitch black hallways -- odds are you are going to see or hear something eventually. It's an illusion or mind game.

I too am a skeptic, that's why it scared the **** out of me. I listened to that tape more than once to see if there was anything else recorded. The voice was very soft but clear there was no mistaking the words "I'm cold". Was it the voice of a lost soul, I don't know. The tape was a fresh blank tape no one else was home, would you care to theorize that I was some how able to mentaly project some subconscious thought to the recorder? Or would you rather dismiss it as delusion? By the way I have read several books on the the power of the subconscious and the power of thought, so I do know the differance between scientific subjectivity and wishful thinking.

I agree with you. I think if something were there, you would see it or here it right away.

I think the only way to tell for sure would be to do more EVP recordings. What's to be scared of? It's just a voice on a recording...
...of someone who's invisible and in the room with you.

Well I could but, I did the recording 40 years ago and I don't live there nor does my mother. I could try it in our apartment but my wife doesn't want me playing with the dead

I've played around with EVP, and think there's something to it. We were trying a digital recorder, and could hear things that sounded like yes and no... but only in response to questions... which had the skeptic in me thinking that it was just some odd coincidence.
The really interesting one was a few weeks later after trying at regular times to communicate, and only getting one word responses, I asked "Are you able to communicate with me?" and received the response "Yes... yes... I think so".
My son finds it incredibly interesting... my wife, heard it once and never wants me to play it again.

It can be unnerving to think the dead really are all around us

I believe the dead are all around us. Some good and some not so good.
Eventhough I am Dead it is always warm inside my bed.
