Greeting Boils and Ghouls!
It's our 20th wedding anniversary and being a 'haunter', my husband and I would like to stay in a haunted hotel or B&B somewhere in Ont. Canada. So far what we've discovered is the closest is Toronto or Ottawa. Not much really to go on. We're on a budget of course and are wondering....... has anyone had experience here and would recommend something????

For a bed & breakfast I can personally recommend The Secret Garden in Kingston- Fort Henry (investigated by so many paranormal groups) being close by is a plus.
Hotels can run a bit more pricey of course, depending where- the Royal York in Toronto has been rumored for years to be haunted. Also, a while back when we were visiting one of my sisters who lives in the Rosedale district, she took us to a murder mystery evening at the King Eddie (aka King Edward) Hotel on King St. East, also rumored to be haunted. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but the King Eddie has some of the creepiest-feeling lobbies/hallways/elevators/banquet rooms I've ever been in!
If you do end up in Toronto & have never been to Casa Loma, try visiting there! Very interesting vibes throughout that place...

One of my brothers (family of 8 here, so an endless supply of suggestions available from the Ontario/Québec sibs) emailed me about a couple of other places:
The Rockhaven Hotel in Peterborough apparently has quite a haunted rep- something about a woman murdered there in the 1960s who isn't resting quietly...
The Rocklyn Inn (B & B) in Rocklyn- not sure of the story there, but he says it has a haunted rep of some sort also.
Hope you find an interesting place to stay for that anniversary getaway you're planning! The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague.

thanks Marie, will jot these down for sure! And as a matter of fact, my husband and I are going to Casa Loma in a few weeks for ONE of small weekender getaways. I have been on the Haunted Walk of Kingston and it never occured to me to just go to one of these places. The Hoshalega Inn is on the tour with a story of a ghost boy. ooooooo! The Secret Garden was one too. The Haunted Walk of Ottawa holds the Hostel Jail, but Jeff doesn't want to be where others are free roaming with tours and 'bunkmates'. The Chateau Laurier is one too, but that looks way out of budget! Maybe those online cheap hotel sites have good prices for that!

I've never been on that Haunted Walk in Ottawa- sounds interesting...
I highly recommend the Secret Garden from our stays there. The proprietors are really great guys & the place is gorgeous- it's no wonder the ghosties don't want to leave! The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague.

Excellent, thanks Marie! I don't recall the stories for the Secret Garden. Care to refresh?

Well, let's see...
-The building was built in 1888 as the home of a local furrier. His wife seems to make appearances to the guests from time to time. She's the SG version of "The Lady in White."
-The Secret Garden also sits on the former site of a different building, a school (1883) that was torn down to build the house- sounds of children playing or running are fairly common in the B&B when no children are in the place or nearby outside. A small girl is said to haunt a closet area in one of the guest rooms (can't recall which room, sorry).
- Sounds of crockery & glassware moving about in the kitchen of the SG are often heard when no one is anywhere near the kitchen & no windows are open in there.
- Footsteps coming up the stairs & down the 2nd & 3rd floor corridors make guests occasionally go to their doors to see who's there, but there's no one in the corridor or in the other rooms on the floor.
That's about all I can remember

Hi Marie,
Thanks again! I emailed the SG and asked for them to relay stories, but they directed me to Haunted Hamilton and an episode that featured them on Rescue Mediums. Unfortunately they didn't wish to tell stories themselves. Checked their site out and it's for sale! The $$ is a little out of budget for us. Maybe take the Haunted Walk tour again. We did go to Casa Loma July 9. Love the history. Felt no vibes though.....too hot! Very busy with tourists and two weddings. The Trinity Inn b/b is supposed to be haunted, it's in Gananaque, east of Kingston. Should email them/check their site. Thanks for you comments!
