Does anyone know what kind of spider this is? I have a trio of them with intricate webs right next to each other near my front door. I'd like to think they are sisters but whatever! They look like they could bite.

They look like orb weavers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orb-weaver_spider
We get them too. I leave them alone until they get too close to the door... or if I walk into one of the giant webs. Then a screaming dance ensues and I go fetch the blowtorch...

I love to kick back and watch them made those amazing webs.... Its beautiful. Spiders are very fascinating I have a beautiful tarantula for probably 5 years. she will live to be 30 or so years. As you can see her in my profile pic
Banded Garden spider (Araneidae)
The largest and most striking of the orb weaving spiders found in Colorado is the banded garden spider (Argiope trifasciata). It is found in late summer and early fall among shrubbery and in gardens where they make a highly symmetrical orb web. Females are generally silvery, with dark and yellow striping. Males are rarely observed and are much smaller than the females. The banded garden spider is harmless. Is it this, its kind of hard to see the actual spider being a bit blurry
Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM!!

I hate spiders. Those big brown ones freak me out. A trick for the ones that are too high to get with a normal spray can: use hornet spray! One or two quick little sprays and they start twisting around and fall to the ground to die. I use it all the time in my backyard.

do they all have big rear sections? or is the on in the second pic ready to burst?
(ie rain thousands of baby spiders on your front porch)
round these parts, ya don't usually find numerous spiders kicking it together.
well, unless theres some hanky panky going's on!

I agree with everything that Snigglez said. Orb Weavers are very cool and make the Spider Queen proud. Beautiful webs!
By the way, spiders only bite when they feel threatened. Contrary to popular belief, spiders do not "stalk you in your sleep" or anything like that. And not all spiders are harmful to humans even when they do bite. Having them near your house is no cause for alarm.
