Bummer and congrats! I actually drifted over here to post something similar.

I got an "involuntary" promotion, and we haven't hired or identified a replacement for my old job. So... I'm still doing it and learning a much more complex role. I worked about 60 hours last week and based on today, I'm on the same pace. We downgraded our party to a pumpking carving party and I'm thinking the decor is going to be low key. No way I can take a day off now.

No way I'm going to complain about it, but man oh man there's something to be said for being DONE with work at 5pm. Our poor kids spend so much time in daycare it makes me want to puke. It's a good thing they love it there.

So you're saying you'll essentially be working every day of the week for 12 hours? That will get real old real fast, regardless of the money involved. I work some 12 hour shifts and any more than 3 in a row is a killer, at least for some. You don't say what kind of work you'll be doing, but if that is indeed your schedule, my sense is you'll experience a good degree of burnout fairly soon, not to mention your life will simply be working and sleeping with very little time to enjoy anything else. Weigh your options carefully!

I use to work 12 hour shifts, but not seven days a week. We would work 4 off 4 or work 3 and off 3.
One good thing about it, it's time and half after 40 hours and double time on Sunday.

This is what I was thinking & I've never worked a shift like that ever. I have a hard enough time doing 8 hours a day!!

Jeffhawk, the economy being what it is, especially in Michigan, a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. I suggest you back off this year, then come back with a vengeance in 2011.

I agree with Wolfman here, Jeffhawk. Some years real life just gets in the way of everyone's favourite day, and it sounds like you may have a good opportunity with this new job. How many days will you be on before you'll get a day off to recoup? It certainly sounds like the type of job I couldn't do over the long haul but more power to you! Just make sure to take your vacation the last week of October next year!
