I took French from 7th grade to 12th grade. I can read it better than speak it.
Though fat lotta good it did me when I was in the car with a French-speaking friend & couldn't remember the French word for "deer" when I was trying to get him to stop in time so he wouldn't hit the big buck that was barreling outta the field at us.
I could remember the words for pig (cochon), horse (cheval), cat (chat), dog (chien), fish (poisson), cow (vache, though to be fair I learned that word from Monty Python's Holy Grail), goat (chevre), almost every other animal out there, but not deer.
I got him to stop in time though it scared the merde outta him coming that close!!
Then someone pointed out I could've said "chere" or "cherie" which is "dear." So for future reference, if any of you are in a car with a French speaking person & you suddenly see a deer hurtling at your car at breakneck speed, the work is "cerf" or "biche" if it's a female, much like we have buck if it's a male w/a rack & doe if it's a female.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

I speak Croatian (it's my materna language), English, German, Spanish and a bit of Swedish.... At the moment I'm learning Spanish, German and Swedish.... I have Spanish classe on Mondays and Wednesdays, and German classes on Sathurdays.... and for Swedish I got a book, called "Beginner's Swedish", so I'm using "self.study" method
It's much easier to learn Swedish, because I also speak English and German. I also enjoy in learning new languages....

Really...I wouldn't recommend you to learn Croatian. It's just too hard. It's one of the hardest languages in Europe, believe me. I have a friend, that lives in Hungary, and he tries to learn Croatian, but he can't pronounce some sounds well, even if we have similar pronounciation.
P.S. yugoslavia is dead for two decades. so where does your family come from??? Croatia, or???
