We found a dog on our front porch last night! No collar or ID.
He's wonderfully friendly and very good. I've made up a flier and I'm going to post it around the neighborhood and in the local grocery stores.
I've also sent out an email to the local members of the homeowners association to see if I can get any info from them.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can be doing. We can't get him in for an RFID scan until Monday. I'm really torn right now because he's a super dog. I can only imagine how his family feels. I hope we can find his owner, but I'm kinda hoping we don't, too.![]()

My wife called our vet (for the kitties) and is taking him in to see if he has an RFID tag. I have to wait at home with the kids and see what the news is.
I spent this morning printing up the "FOUND DOG" posters and putting them up on mail boxes and on community boards in local grocery stores.
I also posted a notice on CraigsList.
Doing everything I can think of to find the owners. Just hope I can do that before I get too attached.
Uh, oh! Too late...

It's been a good weekend with the new dog, who we've nick-named "Jack". He's getting along great with the kids and pretty good with the cats. We had one episode where he started chasing around a cat, but I swear he was just excited and playing. He wasn't barking or growling, just having fun. Of course, the cat didn't see it that way, which is why they're allowed upstairs and Jack has to stay downstairs.
This morning (Monday) we can finally call local shelters and check their listings for missing dogs and get more information on what to do. We do NOT want to leave him at a shelter -- even if it's a no kill shelter like our local PAWS. We'd much rather keep him safe, dry and loved while we look for his owners.
Don't know the county law regarding lost dogs, but my wife is going to try and get that information this morning from one of the shelters. She did read something online yesterday that said you're legally obligated to contact shelters and cannot claim ownership of a found dog for 30 days. I have no idea if that is true or not, which is another reason my wife needs to make some calls this morning.
Here are two more pics of Jack:

Awwww, what a great lookin' pup! I hope you guys get to keep him, he sounds great. What nice folks you are for taking care of him, and being willing to give him back if you find an owner.

WOW! Beautiful dog! And soo sweet! Many times - people just abandon dogs near a neighborhood where they see children - hoping that someone will do just what you have done. These are tough times and folks know that shelters can only do so much in keeping a dog for long. Once you exhaust all the options - I say make him yours. Get a scan chip asap and up to date shots, etc. never leave him loose to run off and you will have a wonderful friend for you and the kids! Congrats and hope it all works out!

Sad, sad news. The best doggy in the whole wide world does have an owner.
His real name is Mojo and he "got out" Friday evening and was running around the neighborhood. This morning we got notice from his owner, Melodie, that she had been looking for him and really does want him back.
Breaks my heart to see him go. Amazing how quickly you can fall for a good dog.

Aaaawww - well if he lives nearby - perhaps you and the owner can share
"Joint doggy custody!"

In any case - that sounds like a happy ending for her - and now you have an open heart to rescue another pup. Visit a nearby shelter or check rescue groups websites. It will be worth it. There are so many that need a good home . . . Aaarf" TO SERVE MAN " ... IT'S A COOKBOOK!"

Well, here's a spot of sunshine!!!!!
I spoke with Mojo's owner and it turns out she and her boyfriend are moving in November and they've actually been looking for a nice home for Mojo!! It would seem Friday evening, he just took matters into his own paws!
Mojo's owner has taken him back for proper love and goodbyes, but in a couple of weeks, he may be coming back to stay with us for good!! I'll keep in touch with Melodie (Mojo's owner) and remind her that we love Mojo and he was so good to our family for the weekend we had him.
I'm crossing my fingers that this all might work out after all.
