I agree. People with those kinds of "issues" will attach themselves to a fiction or real person and identify with them. That isnt to say that without that attachment they would not act on their compulsions. It gives them a direction but if that attachment was not there they would still act in some manner or form. A killer without an attachment is still a killer i.e. A killer with an attachment is still a killer. TV, video games, music and various other media due tend to desensitize people to murder, rape, violence but it does not cause them to do it.
