I know I haven't been posting much lately, but that's because I've been up to my elbows in a house remodel -- adding a new master bath and bedroom onto the house!!
Well, I've been doing a majority of the work by myself, which means everything takes even longer, and now we've hit a nasty set-back. Saturday morning I was very excited to get working. I had ambitious plans to finish the sub-floor now that the plumbing is done and get the hardi-board down so I could start tiling. My dream was to get the tiling done and possibly have the toilet, tub, and sinks installed by Sunday dinner.
Unfortunately, fate stepped in Saturday morning...
The very first thing I needed to do was get a sheet of 3/4" plywood out so I could cut it down to fit the addition. Of course, the plywood was leaning up against the garage under a dozen other sheets of plywood, OSB, and metal. So, I go inside and ask my wife (Endora421) if she can come outside for five minutes and pull out the sheet of plywood I need so I can start working.
She comes out, I support the leaning pile of wood while she attempts to pull out the one sheet I need, and she can't! She says it's stuck. So we switch places, with her holding up the sheets of plywood and OSB, and I go around to wedge myself in between the garage door and the plywood to pull out the one sheet I need.
Ok, I give a tug with my massive bear-like frame and the sheet pops right out. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't posess the same upper body strength as I, and the rest of the stack falls on top of her, slamming her into the edge of the work table and then crushing everything to the ground.
So instead of spending all of Saturday working on the addition, I spent a big chunk of Saturday with my wife in the E.R. Now, the story ends on a good note. She got X-rays and everything is okay. No broken ribs, no damage to kidneys or spleen. She just has some major bruising and can't really do any lifting for a week or two.
This is the long way of saying I don't know how much I'll be able to do for Halloween this year because I'm still working on the remodel. I'm hoping to get everything out that I built last year, but I don't think I'll be putting anything new out there. Sad, but the time is just bleeding away.
Here are some pics of my progress over the past two months:
The back of the house before work began. We had a single 5 ft wide dormer that housed a small upstairs bathroom.
First weekend. Ripped off the existing roof and dove into framing.
Framing the master bath bay window, which will be the focal point for a 5.5 ft clawfoot tub.
More framing and the start of the roof. Everything is coming together in August.
The roof is up and the framing is complete.
The sheething and barrier is up and the windows are in. We're good on the outside, now its on to the plumbing, electrical, sheet rock, tile, etc.

Oh wow, I'm happy your wife is okay. Your house is looking good, and it will look amazing.
I hope you can bring your existing haunt out this year, and you are able to enjoy halloween.
I've been thinking about you and wondering what you were up to these days. I know what it's like to have life get in the way of Halloween. My Dad passed away at the beginning of August and I'm the executor of his estate, and that is taking up every day. Plus I'm 8 months pregnant. I'll be lucky if I finish the one big prop I started this year.My halloween photos http://s233.photobucket.com/albums/ee50/13mummy/

Wow, glad to hear that your wife is OK! I wondered where you have been. Believe me, I feel your pain! We are in the middle of a major home remodel right now...essectially I have no floors, walls, ceiling, powder room, office, kitchen or laundry room. And this year I inherited and entire Halloween collection from a previous haunter, so halloween will be bigger and better this year, and we are planning a big open house on 10/30 to reveal the remodel and new haunt decor. Problem is, they wont be out of my house until 10/26...

I have NO CLUE how im going to pull this off....maybe with a little xanax..just kidding...kind of! I understand!"It's Halloween, everyone's entitled to one good scare."

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but congratulations on the noob!!!!
We had our fourth girl June of 2009, so it was really easy for me to get out and build for Halloween. This year, she's 15 months, walking, climbing, teething, fussing, getting sick, not sleeping, picky eater, etc. Takes a lot of time away from other projects.

Once my wife gets her master bedroom and master bath, I get to take down some of the front of the house and finally build my tower!!! It's going to create a new foyer on the main floor and an office for me on the second floor, then a perfectly delicious third story tower roof in a similar style to the faux roof I built last year out of styrofoam.

I can't wait!!!

TK, I'm glad to hear your Wife is okay, I'm sure that scared the hell out of both of you.
I've been a carpenter for 30 years so I know from experience just how big of an undertaking you've got going on, especially doing all the work yourself. Hang in there, and don't spread yourself too thin brother.
Very clean looking job on the framing by the way.......
I'm all that's left of a bizarre childhood.......

Hope Endora is better! As long as you enjoy the season and find ways to have a spooky halloween, one year without the haunt won't be too bad.
Good luck with the remodeling, and whatever you wind up doing for the haunt!
